5 Best HomeKit Air Purifiers – Better Air Control! (2023)

Air purifiers are a less-popular product category in the HomeKit ecosystem. Only a few air purifiers on the market can be integrated with this system. The advantage of the HomeKit environment lies in its ability to connect various devices within a single framework, simplifying management and enabling home automation.

Best HomeKit Air Purifiers - Hey Siri
When successfully connected to the HomeKit, you can voice control your air purifier.

In essence, HomeKit allows you to connect and coordinate, for example, one company’s air quality monitor with another company’s air purifier, even though they are two different devices/manufacturers.

Impressive, isn’t it?

Top 5 HomeKit Air Purifiers

Once you’ve connected your air purifier to HomeKit or any other smart home environment, trust me, you won’t want to go back to being offline.

The easy voice control of the device is hard to get rid of. That’s why I’ve analyzed the market for air purifiers that work with HomeKit and made a list of the top 5 HomeKit air purifiers you can buy, which I’ll describe in more detail later in the article.

Smartmi P1 – Best Overall

Best HomeKit Air Purifiers - Smartmi P1
Smartmi P1 air purifier.

Smartmi P1 Highlights

  • The Smartmi P1 air purifier is designed for rooms of 320 sq. ft.
  • This air purifier uses a 3-stage filtration technology consisting of a pre-filter, True HEPA filter, and activated carbon filter.
  • Very low power consumption with an engine of only 30W.
  • The Smartmi P1 comes with a 1-year warranty.

The Smartmi P1 is the first air purifier on the list. It is a small air purifier designed for rooms up to 320 sq. ft. This air purifier is equipped with many advanced options. It has an air quality sensor, an air quality indicator, a smart app, an automatic mode, and many other options. In addition, I would like to highlight the extremely easy connection to the HomeKit ecosystem and the even easier control within the system itself.

I like the fact that this device uses a True HEPA filter, so it performed very well in all the tests. For example, in a 320 sq. ft. room, this air purifier improved air quality by 91% in just 60 minutes.

On top of all this, the filters are durable and must be changed every 12 months on average. As for the noise levels produced by this air purifier, I have to say that I am delighted and that this air purifier is very quiet during operation, especially in sleep mode.

Smartmi P1 is a cylindrical air purifier you have probably seen before. However, this one has its own advantages, at least when talking about design and smart features. With such a beautiful design, I am sure you can place it even on a dining table, and nobody will be bothered by it.

In conclusion, the Smartmi P1 is the best air purifier that can be integrated with the HomeKit ecosystem, and my absolute recommendation for purchase.

Sensibo Pure – Also Great

Best HomeKit Air Purifiers - Sensibo Pure
Sensibo Pure air purifier.

Sensibo Pure Highlights

  • Sensibo Pure is a small air purifier that covers rooms up to 294 sq. ft. using Sensibo PureBoost™ technology.
  • This air purifier uses a three-stage filtration technology consisting of a pre-filter, a True HEPA filter, and an activated carbon filter.
  • The Sensibo air purifier uses an engine with a power of only 23W, making it one of the lowest energy consumers on the planet.
  • This air purifier comes with a 1-year warranty.

Sensibo Pure is another air purifier that has made the HomeKit list of the best air purifiers. This device is characterized by an exquisite design, many advanced options, and innovative technology to increase room coverage.

Sensibo Pure uses an air quality sensor that continuously detects PM particles. There is also an automatic mode that works with this sensor and an air quality indicator that displays the readings from the sensor. Even more interesting is that the sensor will always work even when the air purifier is switched off.

One of the options that can be activated directly on the device is the timer, but for the other options, it is best to use the smart app. By connecting to the smart app, you’ll find some options you probably didn’t even know existed. For example, through the smart app, you can subscribe to a Sensibo Plus account, which costs USD 2.99 per month and opens up some options, such as real-time data monitoring of local air quality and the weather outside. In addition, this plan is required to activate Climate React, which works with geo-capping and scheduling options.

Sensibo Pure is an almost identical air purifier to the Smartmi P1 at first look. It is also cylindrical in shape, but all other things are much different. Sensibo Pure is also a lovely air purifier that can uplift any room.

All in all, this is an interesting air purifier with some important advanced options and quality filters, which is why it made the list of the best HomeKit air purifiers.

IKEA STARKVIND – Best Design-Wise

Best HomeKit Air Purifiers - IKEA STARKVIND
IKEA STARKVIND air purifier.

IKEA STARKVIND Highlights

  • IKEA STARKVIND is a small air purifier designed for rooms up to 215 sq. ft.
  • This air purifier uses a three-stage filtration technology consisting of a pre-filter, HEPA filter, and activated carbon filter.
  • STARKVIND uses a small engine with a power of only 33W, which means it consumes very little electricity.
  • Unfortunately, IKEA does not offer any warranty on this air purifier.

IKEA is, in my opinion, a well-known brand, especially in the area of furniture and home or apartment furnishing. However, IKEA has actively entered the air purifier market in the last few years by releasing several different models.

For me, the most exciting model at the moment is the IKEA STARKVIND. It is a modern, stylish, and unique air purifier that looks and feels like a chair or a table with the addition of an air purifier. In addition to its outstanding design, which matches many products in the IKEA collection, this model is characterized by the possibility of connecting to the IKEA Home smart system and the most important option for us, the connection to HomeKit. This air purifier features a three-stage filtration technology consisting of a pre-filter, a HEPA filter, and an activated carbon filter, which is not included in the basic version but is available as a separate purchase.

Frankly, I don’t like that the carbon filter is unavailable in the basic version, and I don’t like that IKEA does not use a True HEPA filter. The HEPA filter at IKEA captures approximately 99.5% of small airborne particles such as PM2.5, dust, and pollen. I would also praise the 5 fan speeds, the additional automatic mode, and the inevitable filter reset indicator.

I must admit that I have never seen an air purifier like this before. It is basically a table or chair that also purifies the air. However, I am unsure if you can sit on it. You can put some stuff on it like a lamp, perfume, cosmetics or something that is not heavy.

I recommend the IKEA STARKVIND air purifier to anyone who wants a stylish air purifier that works with HomeKit and fits into almost any corner of your home.

Airversa Purelle – Works With Thread

Best HomeKit Air Purifiers - Airversa Purelle
Airversa Purelle air purifier.

Airversa Purelle Highlights

  • The Airversa Purelle air purifier is designed for rooms up to 250 sq. ft.
  • This air purifier uses a 3-stage filtration technology. The pre-filter is the first stage, the True HEPA filter is the second, and the activated carbon filter is the third stage.
  • It is a very low-power consumer and uses an engine with a power of only 24W.
  • Airversa has a 2-year warranty.

The Airversa Purelle is a new air purifier on the market, characterized by its use of Thread to connect securely to Apple Homekit. It is currently the first and only air purifier on the market to use Thread, making it unique and worthy of inclusion on this list.

Once connected to HomeKit, you can turn the device on and off, control the fan speed and view the current air quality, all with voice commands.

This is another smaller air purifier that covers rooms up to 250 sq. ft., uses three-stage filtration technology, and, most importantly, has a True HEPA filter. The average filter life in this unit is approximately 3000 hours.

The controls are touch-sensitive, very well laid out, and sufficiently sensitive on the top of the unit. On the control panel, you will find controls for fan speed, network indicator, child lock, filter status indicator, and others.

If you are looking for a more modern fancy air purifier with an LED screen then Airversa is the right choice for you. This device has many fancy options and control through the touch buttons.

The Airversa Purelle is an excellent air purifier, and I recommend it, especially if you are looking for a HomeKit device that works over the Thread network.

Meross – Best For Small Spaces

Best HomeKit Air Purifiers - Meross
Meross air purifier.

Meross Highlights

  • The Meross covers rooms up to 207 sq. ft.
  • It uses three-stage filtration technology and, most importantly, has a True HEPA filter.
  • This air purifier does not have an air quality sensor or similar advanced options.
  • It comes with a one-year warranty.

The Meross is a slightly less popular device but no less remarkable and noteworthy. This small air purifier covers rooms of only 207 sq. ft. It has the option to connect to a smartphone app, as well as, of course, to HomeKit. The smart app can be used for both Android and iOS devices. It’s a bit disappointing that this air purifier doesn’t have an air quality sensor.

Meross uses a three-stage filtration technology consisting of a pre-filter, a True HEPA filter, and an activated carbon filter. The filters last, on average, 3-6 months. I was stunned that this air purifier can be plugged into a Type-C port, which means you can use it directly on the charger from your iPhone. Honestly, this is the first Type-C compatible air purifier I’ve come across so far.

Meross is a kind of small device identical to two previously mentioned cylindrical-shaped air purifiers. However, Meross has power, and this little device, thanks to its powerful filtration system, can remove allergens and other unwanted particles from the air in no time.

The Meross is more characterized by its minimalist design, with just one button to operate the device. Although it came last in the list of the best HomeKit air purifiers, I think the Meross is a solid air purifier worth considering.

Benefits of Connecting Air Purifiers to HomeKit

The HomeKit ecosystem is characterized by the fact that it works best when several different devices are combined. Although we are only writing about air purifiers in this article, this does not mean that you can’t combine them with any other devices that use scenes, or automation of some kind.

Automation and scenes are what make the HomeKit ecosystem so powerful. Automation is basically creating the conditions under which specific commands will be executed. Suppose the air quality in the room exceeds a certain value. In that case, it turns on all the air purifiers I have in the house or switches the air purifier to maximum speed. Scenes are fascinating because they allow you to control several different devices in a few clicks.

An example of a scene I activated at home and used for a while. Specifically, I activated a scene in my bedroom where I have a Smart LED light (main light), a Smartmi P1 air purifier, and a Smart nightlight. I have created a scene that I activate when I go to bed. This scene switches the Smartmi P1 to its lowest speed, turns off the Smart LED light (if it is not already off), turns on the night light, and switches the Smartmi P1 to a predefined fan speed that suits me best. So with just one click, I activate the environment that suits me in my bedroom. Just imagine what other scenes you can activate in rooms like the living room, kitchen, and so on, or for example, when you leave the house to turn off all your devices.

I would add that it is very difficult to give the exact benefits of connecting an air purifier to the HomeKit ecosystem because each individual is an individual, but I have given an example of how I have used this ecosystem and how I have benefited from using it, which I think best illustrates how powerful a thing this really is.

How to Make an Air Purifier Smart?

The question is, what to do if the air purifier is not available in HomeKit? Fortunately, some air purifiers can be connected to this ecosystem even if they don’t have this option built-in. In the way I will describe below, devices with mechanical controls can be connected, or devices that switch on as soon as they are plugged in. Some of the air purifiers I have tested that belong to this list are the Blueair Blue Pure series, the GermGuardian AC4825, the Levoit LV-H128, and the IKEA FÖRNUFTIG.

Suppose you want to make one of these devices smart and work with HomeKit. In that case, you first need to get a smart plug, and preferably an air quality monitor that works with HomeKit. What then?

  1. Connect the air purifier to the smart plug, which you then connect to HomeKit. This makes your air purifier smart and opens up many new control possibilities.
  2. To make it even smarter, connect the air quality monitor to HomeKit.
  3. Then, create automation so that you monitor the data you get from the air quality monitor. For example, set it to turn off the air purifier if the current AQI is below 10. Or, if the AQI  is greater than 10, then simply turn on the air purifier.

In just a few steps, you have a smart air purifier that also works in combination with an air quality sensor.

FAQs About Best HomeKit Air Purifiers

How do I know if an air purifier is compatible with HomeKit?

All the devices I’ve mentioned in the list are HomeKit compatible. If you want to check whether a particular device works with HomeKit, you can do so on Apple’s official website.

Do these air purifiers work if I don’t connect them to HomeKit?

Of course, they do work. Connecting to the HomeKit ecosystem is just an extra benefit you don’t have to take advantage of if you don’t want to, which means that integration is entirely optional.

Can I combine one of these air purifiers with an additional air quality monitor?

HomeKit offers the possibility to combine several different devices, which means that you can create the environment that suits you best, which means that you can connect your air purifier to another, additional air quality monitor using HomeKit.

Final Conclusion

I believe that most users reading this article already know what HomeKit is and what its benefits are and already have an idea of how to best use some of the air purifiers on the list. Although HomeKit is a desirable feature that takes all these devices on the list to the next level, I have to say that with air purifiers, some things are still more important, such as filtration technology, advanced options, noise pollution, and maintenance costs.

As a result, as the best choice to buy and as a device that outperforms the other devices on the list on almost all parameters, my pick would be the Smartmi P1 air purifier. It is a small but powerful air purifier that has performed more than well in all the tests.

If you have any questions, confusion, or even problems connecting the air purifier from the list to HomeKit, please comment in the comment box below, and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
