How to Remove “F” Code on Your Dyson Air Purifier (Easy Fix)

When your Dyson air purifier displays an “F” code with three flashing bars, it indicates that the filter needs to be replaced. Dyson filters generally last around 12 months, so you can expect to see this code at least once a year.

However, the main issue with this code lies in the filter replacement process because many people aren’t familiar with the replacement procedure. So, this is what needs to be done: when you notice the “F” code with three bars, you must replace your air purifier’s old filter with a new one and RESET the filter reset indicator. Then, the “F” code will stop blinking, and that’s all.

The question is whether this code is the same on every Dyson air purifier and if the reset procedure is the same for all. Unfortunately, it’s not. But you can attempt to reset the Dyson filter reset indicator by holding your finger on the Power ON/OFF button on the remote controller of your Dyson for 6 seconds or simply do the procedure through the smart app.

What are other F codes on Dyson Air Purifiers?

If you are a Dyson air purifier owner, you will see the “F” code with three bars beside it on your device sooner or later.

As I mentioned before, this code informs you that it’s time to replace the filter. However, there are a few other F codes that can appear on your Dyson:

Dyson F1 Code

This code indicates a problem with the Piezoelectric charge. To resolve this issue, you need to turn off the air purifier and unplug it from the power source.

Then, wait for 60 seconds and turn it back on. If this process doesn’t work, try repeating it several times.

Dyson F2 Code

This message applies only to Dyson devices equipped with UV-C light and indicates an issue with the light emission. The repair procedure is the same as for the previous code message.

Turn off the air purifier, unplug it from the power source, and wait for 60 seconds before turning it back on. Repeat the process several times if the error persists.

If the code continues showing, it may be that the UV-C light needs replacement.

Dyson F3 Code

You’ll most typically get this code with Dyson humidifiers, but it can also appear with air purifiers. This code indicates that your machine is too cold.

The room temperature where you use the Dyson should not fall below 5°C (41°F). If the temperature drops below this value, you’ll receive the F3 error, and your Dyson will shut down, preventing you from turning it back on until you warm up the room to a higher temperature.

The reset procedure for this code is the same as for the previous ones. Turn off the device, unplug it from the power source, wait for 60 seconds, and turn it back on. Repeat the process several times, but make sure the room temperature is above 5°C (41°F).

Dyson F4 & F5 Codes

Dyson hasn’t provided clear explanations for these error codes, but the resolving procedure is identical to the previously described errors.

FAQ on Dyson Code “F”

What if I hold the power button directly on the device for some time?

In that case, you won’t be resetting the filter reset indicator but the WiFi indicator, which will typically light up in green after resetting it.

What is the easiest way to reset the filter reset indicator on Dyson?

The easiest way to reset the filter reset indicator on Dyson is by holding your finger on the Power ON/OFF button on the remote controller or through the Dyson smart application, which is available for Android and iOS devices.

For some Dyson air purifiers, mostly newer models, instead of the Power ON/OFF button, the procedure is a bit more challenging, requiring you to hold the oscillation button to reset carbon filters and the sleep mode button to reset particle filters.

Is the “F” code an error or just information?

Essentially, the “F” code is information indicating that the filter in your Dyson air purifier is dirty and needs replacement. It isn’t an error or an indication of a malfunction on your device.

Does every Dyson air purifier display the “F” code?

No, some Dyson air purifiers have a different display, which is more visually appealing. It usually presents a graphic illustration of a dirty filter in red color, with an exclamation mark above it.

Final Thoughts

When you notice an “F” code, with three bars beside it, on your Dyson air purifier, it is not a sign of any error but simply an indication that the filter is worn out and needs to be replaced as soon as possible.

After successfully replacing the filter and following Dyson’s recommended procedure, the final step is to reset the filter reset indicator, which will resolve the blinking “F” code or any other indicator indicating that it’s time to reset the filter.

My filter indicator will not reset. I’ve pressed the on/off button a million times after replacing the filter and turning it on first. Nothing happens. Is it malfunctioning or something. Super frustrated

Thank you. Thanks to your instructions, I persevered and took 4 times of unplugging, waiting 60 seconds, and pressing for 6 seconds. I might have given up earlier had I not read this.
