Blueair 411 Auto Vs Levoit Vital 100: Which is Better?

This comparison highlights the differences and similarities between the Blueair 411 Auto and Levoit Vital 100 to help you choose the better option.

Levoit and Blueair are very competitive brands, and that’s why I’m always happy to compare air purifiers from these two brands. Today, I will compare the Blueair 411 Auto and the Levoit Vital 100 air purifiers.

Immediately after reviewing their specifications, it’s clear that these are totally different air purifiers. The Blueair 411 Auto is a minimalistic air purifier, almost without advanced options, excluding the air quality sensor.

The Levoit Vital 100, on the other hand, has a few additional options, such as a timer and display off feature, but doesn’t have an air quality sensor, which is perhaps a much more important option.

The Levoit covers rooms up to 300 sq. ft. (28 m²), while the Blueair covers much smaller rooms up to 190 sq. ft. (18 m²). Both devices use high-quality filters, which last about the same time, and both performed exceptionally in tests.

When it comes to design, honestly, I prefer the Blueair 411 Auto over the Levoit Vital 100, primarily because of its simplicity and the unique pre-filter, which is also available in five different colors.

Our Verdict

To summarize, the Levoit Vital 100 performed slightly better in particle removal tests than the Blueair 411 Auto, but in all other tests (including the smoke test), the Blueair was better.

Because there was no significant difference in performance tests, and because it was much cheaper to maintain, had an air quality sensor, had a unique pre-filter, was quieter, and much cheaper for maintenance, I chose the Blueair 411 Auto as the winner in this comparison and as the better buying option.

Particle Removal Test – Comparison

Before I compare the performance of these two devices, I want to touch on CADR. The Levoit Vital 100 has a slightly higher CADR, which is why it covers rooms up to 300 sq. ft. (28 m²). On the other hand, the Blueair 411 Auto covers rooms up to 190 sq. ft. (18 m²).

According to their recommended room coverage, we tested these two devices in two different rooms.

In the first test, in a room of 194 sq. ft. (18 m²), the Levoit performed 1% better. This air purifier improved the air quality by 95%, while the Blueair 411 Auto improved the air quality by about 94%.

Particle Removal Tests - Comparison

We placed the Blueair 411 Auto and Levoit Vital 100 in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.

In the second test, in a room of 320 sq. ft. (30 m²), the situation was almost identical. The Levoit Vital 100 improved air quality by about 92%, while the Blueair 411 Auto improved air quality by about 91%.

However, what sets the Blueair apart is its much better pre-filter, which makes it much easier to maintain high efficiency over the long term. I say this because the pre-filter of this model is much simpler to maintain.

Based on the tests conducted, I would still give a slight edge to the Levoit Vital 100 air purifier in terms of performance.

However, the difference is almost negligible, and we could easily say that these two devices have identical performance.

Smoke Box Test – Comparison

The Blueair 411 Auto covers much smaller rooms than the Vital 100, but it produced much better results in the smoke test.

It managed to remove all the smoke from the smoke box in just 27 seconds, while the Levoit Vital 100 removed all the smoke in 33 seconds.

Even though the difference is only 6 seconds, I was shocked and expected the Levoit to win this test.

Noise Level Test – Comparison

Both air purifiers have only three fan speeds, with the only difference being that the Blueair 411 Auto has a sleep mode (night mode).

I would prefer if they had at least one more fan speed, but even without it, I can say that they are both relatively quiet.

Noise Levels - Comparison

Comparison of noise levels at all fan speeds between the Blueair 411 Auto and Levoit Vital 100 air purifiers.

At the first speed, the Blueair 411 Auto produces a sound of 41.6 dBA, while the Levoit Vital 100 produces a sound of 41.9 dBA. This difference is minimal, only 0.3 dBA.

However, at the max speed, the difference is slightly more significant. The Levoit Vital 100 produces a sound of 63.4 dBA, while the Blueair 411 Auto produces a sound of 61.2 dBA.

We can agree that they are both a bit louder at max speed than expected for such a CADR, but overall, compared to other air purifiers we tested, these are very good results.

Fan Speed Levoit Vital 100 (dBA)Blueair 411 Auto (dBA)
Sleep Mode-41.6 dBA
Speed 1 (Low)41.9 dBA42.9 dBA
Speed 2 (Medium)51.1 dBA61.2 dBA
Speed 3 (High)63.4 dBA-

All in all, we can declare the Blueair 411 Auto as quieter.

Operating Costs – Comparison

Not only is the Blueair 411 Auto quieter in operation, but it also has a better-optimized motor with a power rating of just 10W. Honestly, this is one of the best-optimized motors I’ve seen so far, and I can say that this Blueair has one of the best power-to-CADR ratios.

On the other hand, the Levoit Vital 100 uses a motor with a power rating of 55W, which is an enormous 5.5 times larger than the Blueair’s motor.

Monthly Power Consumption Cost Comparison

Comparison of monthly power consumption costs for the Blueair 411 Auto and Levoit Vital 100 air purifiers at all fan speeds.

If you were to use these two devices at maximum speeds, 24 hours a day, for a month, your electricity bill would increase by $0.80 for the Blueair 411 Auto and about $5.08 for the Levoit. The difference is huge!

Fan Speed Levoit Vital 100 (W + $/month)Blueair 411 Auto (W + $/month)
Standby0.2W ($0.01)0W ($0)
Sleep Mode- 1.9W ($0.17)
Speed 1 (Low)22.1W ($1.94)2.3W ($0.2)
Speed 2 (Medium)33.7W ($2.95)9.1W ($0.8)
Speed 3 (High)57.9W ($5.08)-

Besides electricity consumption, there’s also the cost of replacing filters. Considering that both devices require filter replacements about twice a year, and the Blueair 411 Auto replacement filter is cheaper, it is more than obvious that the Blueair 411 Auto is much more affordable to maintain than the Levoit Vital 100.
