The immense popularity and market presence are characteristics of these air purifiers that I would like to single out. Both devices are pretty ok in quality when it comes to construction and build quality. They both have control panels located on the top consisting of touch buttons and indicators. A unique feature of Medify is the control panel made of tempered glass.

Below I will compare the Levoit Core 300 and Medify MA-25 features, performance, noise levels, and operating costs, and based on that, will determine which air purifier is the better choice to buy.

Features Overview

When talking about features, I must say that advanced options such as air quality sensor, auto mode, and the like you will not find with these two air purifiers.

Medify MA-25 Vs Levoit Core 300 Air Purifiers - Controls
They both have control buttons and indicators located on the top.

Medify and Levoit have only basic features, which are quite enough for comfortable everyday use.

Filter Reset Indicator

A filter reset indicator is an option specific to both devices. It is basically an indicator located on the control panel that will light up when it is time to replace the old filter/s.

This is a beneficial feature because you will not have to track when it is time to replace the filter.

Please keep in mind that filters on the Levoit Core 300 last between 6-8 months, while filters on the Medify MA-25 last about 3-4 months on average.

Timer

Another handy option common to both devices is the timer, which works by setting the time you want the device to turn itself off.

On Levoit, the timer can be set to 2h, 4h, 6h, or 8h, while on Medify the timer can be set to 1h, 2h, 4h, or 8h.

All in all, this is a very useful option, especially in the absence of advanced smart options that would provide a more advanced version of the timer.

Sleep Mode

Sleep mode is an option available only on the Levoit Core 300 model, and it is, in fact, the only option that distinguishes these two devices.

Basically, switching the device to sleep mode will dim all the indicators and switch the fan speed to the lowest.

Display Lock and Display Off

These two options are common to Medify and Levoit but are differently named.

Display Lock is used to lock the touch buttons and prevent accidental or unauthorized switching settings.

Display Off has a different purpose and serves to dim all the indicators on the device. On Medify, this option is a bit more advanced, as it offers several different brightness levels.

Airflow

What makes these two air purifiers even more different is the airflow.

Levoit is cylindrical, and it has openings for air intake located at the bottom part. Medify MA-25 is rectangular. It has openings for air intake located on the sides.

The filtered air comes out through the openings on top in the case of the Levoit Core 300, while on Medify it exits through the slots on the front.

Warranty

Before buying any product, it is always important to pay attention to all the features and the warranty that the manufacturer gives to the product.

Medify is far ahead of Levoit in this case, as it gives a lifetime warranty, but only if you subscribe to regular replacement filters through the Medify website.

Levoit, on the other hand, provides a 2-year warranty for the Core 300. However, I would advise everyone to register the air purifier on the Levoit website immediately after purchase to confirm the warranty.

Filtration Technology

When we talk about filtration, the biggest difference is that Medify has a dual filter placed on the sides. The filters on Medify are rectangular, while the filter on Levoit is cylindrical and hollow through the middle.

Medify MA-25 Vs Levoit Core 300 Air Purifiers - Filtration Technology
In the image above, you can see Medify’s dual filter and Levoit’s cylindrical filter.

Both devices use 3-stage filtration technology, consisting of nylon mesh pre-filters, a True HEPA filter, and an activated carbon filter.

I am especially pleased that both devices use a True HEPA filter, especially since it is the primary filtration stage. Additionally, the True HEPA is the most responsible for the outstanding performance these two air purifiers have made.

Also, I am delighted with the quality of the carbon filter, especially since both devices have a pellet-based carbon filter.

Overall, Levoit and Medify use high-quality and highly efficient filters.

How to Replace Filters?

Since Medify and Levoit do not use washable filters, you should change the filters on these two devices from time to time.

Levoit Core 300 filter lasts on average between 6-8 months, while Medify MA-25 filters last between 3-4 months. Note that you do not have to manually track when it is time to replace the filter, as both devices use a filter reset indicator that will notify you when old filters need to be changed.

The process of replacing the filter is straightforward, and I explained it in detail in the individual reviews that you can find at the links below.

Noise Test

When testing noise, the first thing I compare is how many fan speeds the device has. In this case, the Levoit Core 300 has four fan speeds, while the Medify MA-25 has three fan speeds.

Medify MA-25 Vs Levoit Core 300 - Noise test
I used a special noise measurement tool to test these two air purifiers’ noise levels.

The slight advantage that the Core 300 has here is that it has four fan speeds and a sleep mode, on which it is almost inaudible. The Core 300 produces 40.7 dBA of sound on sleep mode, while the Medify MA-25 produces 41.8 dBA of sound at its lowest speed.

At maximum speeds, the situation is somewhat different. Medify produces 64.0 dBA of sound, while Levoit is slightly louder and produces about 64.9 dBA of sound.

Product Noise Range (dBA)
Medify MA-25 41.8 – 64.0 dBA
Levoit Core 300 40.7 – 64.9 dBA

Altogether, these two air purifiers are not too loud, but I would give a slight advantage in this test to Levoit because of the sleep mode option, especially if you plan to use it in the bedroom.

Performance Tests

Honestly, performance tests are what I found most interesting in this comparison, mainly since these two air purifiers cover rooms of almost identical dimensions.

Testing Medify MA-25 and Levoit Core 300 performance with a laser particle meter.

Levoit Core 300 covers rooms up to 219 sq. ft., while the Medify MA-25 covers slightly smaller rooms, up to 210 sq. ft. Due to the identical room coverage, I tested these two devices in almost the same conditions.

194 sq. ft. Room Tests

In the first test, in a room of 194 sq. ft., Levoit Core 300 improved air quality by about 93% in 60 minutes, working at max speed, while Medify MA-25 improved air quality by about 94% in the same conditions.

Undoubtedly, both devices made excellent results and, at the same time, justified their popularity.

320 sq. ft. Room Tests

In the second test, this time in a room of 320 sq. ft., which is slightly larger than the recommended dimensions for both devices, Medify MA-25 improved air quality by about 91% in 60 minutes of operation at max speed, while Levoit Core 300 improved air quality by about 92% in identical conditions.

I can say that this is an even better result than in the previous test, especially if we take into account that I tested the devices in a much larger room than the recommended dimensions.

Operating Costs

When determining which air purifier is more affordable for maintenance, I always consider the price of replacement filters and electricity consumption.

Medify MA-25 and Levoit Core 300 use small power motors
Medify MA-25 and Levoit Core 300 use small power motors.

When speaking of power usage, it is essential to mention that the Medify MA-25 uses a 28W motor, while the Levoit Core 300 uses a 45W motor. This means that if you left these two devices running at max speed, 24 hours a day, for one month, your electricity bill would be increased by about $ 2.3 in the case of Medify, and about $ 3.8 in the case of Levoit.

Product Wattage Range (W)
Medify MA-25 0.1 – 26.3W
Levoit Core 300 0.8 – 43.5W

However, when it comes to the price of replacement filters, Levoit has blown away Medify, mainly because it uses a longer-lasting filter that is also much cheaper.

Overall, the Levoit Core 300 is cheaper for maintenance annually and more affordable than the Medify MA-25.

Which One Does It Better?

In summary, these two air purifiers have made almost identical results in performance tests, which makes it a bit difficult to choose a winner.

However, due to the much cheaper maintenance, sleep mode option, as well as longer-lasting filter, the Levoit Core 300 is, in my opinion, a better buying option.

Yet, Medify MA-25 is not a bad choice either, especially if regular filter replacement is not too expensive for you because you would also be entitled to a lifetime warranty in addition to new filters.
