RATING

The Medify MA-25 is a compact air purifier designed for rooms up to 171 sq. ft. (16 m²). It cleans the air 4.8 times per hour in spaces of this size.

One of its standout features is the dual filtration system, which uses one filter on each side. Both filters include three layers: a pre-filter, a True HEPA filter, and an activated carbon layer.

Although it is energy-efficient, its replacement filters are quite expensive, making maintenance more costly than expected.

In performance tests, it delivered outstanding results and performed exceptionally well in our smoke removal test.

Overall, the Medify MA-25 is an excellent air purifier with superior performance and filtration technology, though its higher maintenance costs are a minor drawback that doesn’t significantly affect my opinion of this compact device.

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave a comment below.

What do we really like?

  • It features a dual 3-in-1 filtration system consisting of a pre-filter, a True HEPA filter, and an activated carbon filter.

  • I’m very impressed with the high-quality build of the Medify MA-25 air purifier, especially the tempered glass on top of the control panel, which adds a premium touch.

  • The Medify MA-25 is generally a very quiet air purifier. At its lowest speed, it produces only 41.8 dBA.

  • It demonstrated outstanding performance in tests. In a 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) room, the Medify MA-25 improved air quality by approximately 94%.

  • This air purifier is CARB-certified, doesn’t produce ozone or any other harmful gases, and is 100% safe to use.

  • It’s available in three colors: black, white, and silver.

  • Medify is a reliable brand that has been on the market for years

What could be better?

  • It’s a simple air purifier without any smart features. It would be better if it at least included an air quality sensor and auto mode.

  • Although the Medify MA-25 runs on a small 28W motor, its replacement filters seem overpriced, especially considering they need to be replaced every 3-4 months.

  • The Medify MA-25 offers a lifetime warranty, but in order to activate it, you have to subscribe to replacement filter plan through the Medify website.

Full Review

Medify Air is a well-established company in the air purifier market. They currently offer more than 10 air purifiers, many of which are highly rated by users, with some ranking among the best-selling models.

In this review, I will provide a detailed overview of the Medify MA-25 air purifier.

Medify MA-25 Air Purifier - Review

It’s a small and compact device equipped with a dual True HEPA filter and a few advanced features.

The Medify MA-25 closely resembles the Medify MA-15, which shares the same design and dual-filter system but is slightly smaller.

Keep reading for an in-depth analysis of its test results, specifications, and features.

How We Tested the Medify MA-25?

1. For the filter efficiency testing, we used the Temtop LKC-1000S laser particle meter, which measures PM2.5 (µg/m3), PM10 (µg/m3), Particles (per/L), and HCHO (mg/m3) in the air, and also calculates the AQI.

2. We placed the Medify MA-25 in two separate performance tests, one in a 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) room and the other in 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) room. Then, we recorded the initial air quality values using the Temtop laser particle meter and let the Medify MA-25 run at maximum speed.

3. After 60 minutes, we measured the new values using the Temtop laser particle meter and saved the data.

4. Next, we placed the Medify MA-25 in a glass box, which we then filled with smoke. Then, we measured how much time was needed for the air purifier to remove all the smoke from the box.

5. Using a special noise measurement tool, we tested the air purifier’s noise level at all speeds. We measured the noise level on the dBA scale.

Performance – Particle Removal Tests

The Medify MA-25 is a compact air purifier best suited for rooms up to 171 sq. ft. (16 m²).

What’s interesting is that it performed exceptionally well in slightly larger rooms, so we put it to the test in two rooms beyond its recommended coverage.

Additionally, I’d like to point out that the Medify MA-25 delivered solid results in real-life cooking odor and pet odor neutralization tests.

Because of this, I believe it will be a great fit for most households.

As for downsides, I would mention the lack of a sleep mode. Each time I used it in the bedroom, I had to manually switch it to the lowest speed and adjust the dimmer, which can be inconvenient.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with this air purifier’s performance and would absolutely recommend it.

Testing in a 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) Room

In the first test, performed in a 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) room, we let the Medify MA-25 run at maximum speed for 60 minutes.

# Starting Baseline After 60 min
PM 2.5 105.5 µg/m³ 5.9 µg/m³
PM 10 147.8 µg/m³ 8.2 µg/m³
Particles 153111 per/L 8555 per/L
AQI 138 8

By the end of the test, it improved air quality by an impressive 94%, making it one of the top performers in its class.

Particle Removal Test Room - Comparison

Comparison between the Medify MA-25 and its competitors in particle removal tests in a 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) room.

As shown in the chart, it ranks near the top, performing on par with some of the best air purifiers we’ve tested. For instance, the Levoit Core 300S also achieved a 94% air quality improvement under the same conditions.

Overall, I would say the Medify MA-25 is a highly efficient air purifier.

Testing in a 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) Room

In the second test, we put the Medify MA-25 to the challenge by testing it in a 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) room, which is significantly larger than its recommended coverage.

Despite this, it improved air quality by an impressive 91%, reducing PM2.5 levels from 106.7 to 9.3 µg/m³.

# Starting Baseline After 60 min
PM 2.5 106.7 µg/m³ 9.3 µg/m³
PM 10 149.4 µg/m³ 13 µg/m³
Particles 154775 per/L 13515 per/L
AQI 139 12

This is an outstanding result, exceeding expectations. At the same time, it confirms that the Medify MA-25 can be effectively used in slightly larger rooms.

Even more interesting is that after 60 minutes, the Medify MA-25 continued to improve air quality further.

Performance – Smoke Removal Test

Although the Medify MA-25 doesn’t have high CADR, it features a dual-filter system and a pellet-based activated carbon filter.

Thanks to its dual filter, it performed well in our smoke removal test. It needed only 31 seconds to clear all the smoke from the glass box.

Compared to similar air purifiers, it ranks fairly well—somewhere in the middle. For instance, the Honeywell HPA100 took 33 seconds to remove all the smoke in the same test.

Smoke Box Test - Comparison

In this chart, you can see how quickly the Medify MA-25 removes smoke from a glass box compared to its competitors.

While the Medify MA-25 didn’t deliver groundbreaking results, it still performed solidly in this test.

9.2

Noise Levels Test

The Medify MA-25 has three fan speeds but lacks a sleep mode.

However, it’s quiet at the lowest speed—quiet enough that this setting can easily compete with sleep mode on some similar air purifiers.

At its lowest speed, the Medify MA-25 produces 41.8 dBA, which is relatively low. Compared to similar models, I would say it is well-optimized for noise levels.

Noise Levels Test - Comparison

This chart compares the noise levels at the minimum and maximum speeds of the Medify MA-25 air purifier with those of its competitors.

At maximum speed, however, it is slightly louder, producing 64.0 dBA, placing it among the loudest air purifiers in its class. For example, the Levoit Vital 100S registers 65.4 dBA, while the Philips 600i Series operates at a significantly lower 57.3 dBA.

Although it is a bit louder at maximum speed, the good thing is that you likely won’t need to use it at full power very often.

Fan Speed Medify MA-25 (dBA)
Speed 1 (Low)41.8 dBA
Speed 2 (Medium)50.3 dBA
Speed 3 (High)64 dBA

Overall, the Medify MA-25 isn’t an overly loud air purifier, but given its CADR, I would have expected it to be a bit quieter at maximum speed.

8.4

Operating Costs – Power Usage Test & Filter Price

The Medify MA-25 is a compact air purifier powered by a 28W motor. However, it has a CADR of only 110 CFM (187 m³/h), which is lower than expected for a motor of this power.

Medify MA-25 Air Purifier - Power Consumption
The Medify MA-25 has one motor located in the middle of the device. Photo: Airpurifierfirst.com / Milan Antonic

For comparison, the Levoit Core 300S uses a 26W motor but provides a much higher CADR of 141 CFM (240 m³/h).

At maximum speed, it consumes only 26.3W. This means that running it at maximum speed 24 hours a day for a month would increase your electric bill by approximately $2.31. The Medify MA-25 is Energy Star certified.

Fan Speed Medify MA-25 (W + $/month)
Standby0.1W ($0.01)
Speed 1 (Low)1.6W ($0.14)
Speed 2 (Medium)7.3W ($0.64)
Speed 3 (High)26.3W ($2.31)

However, beyond electricity costs, there is also a cost of replacement filters, which are more expensive than I expected.

Not only are the filters costly, but they also need to be replaced approximately three to four times per year.

Monthly Power Cost – Comparison

Comparison of the monthly power cost at maximum speed between the Medify MA-25 and some of its competitors.

One thing to note is that Medify offers a lifetime warranty if you subscribe to their filter replacement program through their website.

In summary, the Medify MA-25 is energy-efficient, but it requires frequent filter replacements. Given the high price of replacement filters, I would consider it slightly more expensive to maintain on an annual basis.

Filtration Technology

When it comes to filtration, I would like to say that I really like the fact that the Medify MA-25 uses a double filter. I think this is one of the reasons why this air purifier scored so well on the tests.

Medify MA-25 Air Purifier - Filtration Technology
The Medify MA-25 air purifier uses a dual 3-in-1 True HEPA filter. Photo: Airpurifierfirst.com / Milan Antonic

These two filters contain a 3-stage filtration, comprising a pre-filter, a True HEPA filter, and an activated carbon filter. The filters in this air purifier are of exceptionally high quality; the device does not use an ionizer or any similar additional form of filtration, making the Medify MA-25 an ozone-free air purifier.

The filters on the Medify MA-25 are not washable. They should be changed regularly, as soon as the filter reset indicator lights up.

Pre-filter

The pre-filter is the first stage of filtration. Its purpose is to trap all large particles such as pet hair, fibers, and pet dander, thus extending the life of True HEPA filters. This filter is essentially a nylon mesh attached to the True HEPA filter.

I would advise everyone to maintain the pre-filter regularly and vacuum it at least twice a month. This ensures that you always maintain a high efficiency level, and the filter will last longer.

True HEPA Filter

The True HEPA filter is the basic level of filtration and, indeed, the most deserving filter for the excellent performance that this appliance has shown in tests.

Medify MA-25 Air Purifier - True HEPA Filter
The Medify MA-25 uses an H13 True HEPA filter. Photo: Airpurifierfirst.com / Milan Antonic

A True HEPA filter captures 99.97% of harmful particles, including allergens, odors, VOCs, smoke, pollen, pet dander, dust, smog, pollutants, and others down to 0.3 microns in size.

Activated Carbon Filter

The activated carbon filter is the last stage of filtration. Its purpose is to adsorb pet dander, cooking odors, and VOCs in the household.

Medify MA-25 Air Purifier - Carbon Filter
A pellet-based carbon filter is the last stage of filtration on Medify MA-25. Photo: Airpurifierfirst.com / Milan Antonic

I really like the fact that Medify has put a pellet-based carbon filter in this device, as this type of carbon filter is generally known to be much more reliable in neutralizing odors than ordinary carbon-coated fiber filters.

How to Replace the Medify MA-25 Filters?

As I mentioned earlier, the Medify MA-25 does not use washable filters, which means that the filters need to be changed from time to time. For this device, the filters last on average between 3-4 months or approximately 2500 hours of continuous operation.

I recommend everyone to always use original Medify filters and never buy third-party filters. There are several reasons, but I would like to point out that by purchasing original Medify filters, you are entitled to a lifetime guarantee through their website.

The second reason is that Medify filters are tested, effective, and reliable, which may not be the case with filters from other companies.

The process of replacing the filter on this device is straightforward and is done in a few steps, which you can follow below.

Total time: 5 minutes.

Step 1

To begin, unplug the device from the mains and immediately open the covers on the sides.

Open the covers on the sides.

Step 2

The next step is to remove the old filters from the device.

Step 3

It would be good to use a vacuum cleaner to vacuum up any dust accumulated inside the lid or inside the device.

Step 4

Then unpack the new filters, insert them into the appliance and close the lids.

Step 5

The last step is to reset the filter reset indicator by holding your finger on the dimmer button for 3 seconds.

Installation and Setup

The Medify MA-25 is a simple air purifier that does not require advanced preparation before starting. However, be sure to remove the plastic protection from both filters before starting it for the first time. This can cause the motor to overheat and damage the unit.

After that, all you have to do is connect the power cable to the Medify, place it in the desired location, take care not to block the airflow, plug it in, and switch it on.

Pay attention to where you place the Medify MA-25, mainly because of the specific airflow in this device.

Design

The Medify MA-25 is a sleek, rectangular-shaped, compact air purifier. It is very similar to the other air purifiers in the Medify range. This model is available in black, silver, and white color. The model I am testing and presenting in this review is white, except for the top panel, which is black.

Medify MA-25 Air Purifier - Design
The Medify MA-25 is a sleek and modern air purifier that will fit almost any ambiance. Photo: Airpurifierfirst.com / Milan Antonic

I would also like to point out that I am surprised because the top panel is made of tempered glass, which is not very common in air purifiers. Note that tempered glass is scratch-resistant, which is not the case with some other air purifiers that use plastic for this purpose.

The build quality of the Medify MA-25 is of an excellent standard. The plastic quality is also excellent. I like the fact that the designers have thought about almost every detail. There are carrying handles on the side to make moving this already small device even easier from room to room.

The Medify MA-25 blends in perfectly in almost any environment, especially when you add to the exquisite design the possibility of choosing three different colors. It fits very well on an office desk, a bedside table, or even on the floor.

Control Panel

As I mentioned before, the control panel is located at the top of the device. It consists of touch buttons and indicators. The buttons are sufficiently sensitive, react quickly to pressure, and are very well-arranged.

Medify MA-25 Air Purifier - Top Panel
The control panel is located at the top and contains the touch buttons and indicators. Photo: Airpurifierfirst.com / Milan Antonic

The buttons located on the Medify MA-25 are the child lock, timer, power, speed, and dimmer controls. Each button is an indicator of its own, so it lights up when active.

There are additional indicators above some of the buttons. You can see indicators above the timer button to show the current timer setting. Or above the fan speed button, you can see indicators showing the current fan speed.

In fact, I really like the position of the control panel. I like the fact that the buttons are horizontally arranged and large enough, and quite pressure-sensitive.

The power button flashes as long as the air purifier is plugged in. It doesn’t matter if it is on or not.

Airflow

When it comes to airflow, this is the first point on this device that I object to, and it concerns how the Medify MA-25 expels air from the device.

This air purifier draws air through the openings on the sides, which is then filtered and exits through the slots on the front. What I do not like here, and I do not think it is the best solution, is that the air comes out in the front. A much better solution, which would achieve greater efficiency, is for the air to come out at the top or when the situation is such that it at least comes out from the back.

In addition, it is much more difficult for me to place the device on an office desk or in a location because it is not very practical to have the device blowing towards me all the time.

Size and Dimensions

The air purifier weighs 7.3 lb. The dimensions of the device are 13.5 x 8 x 8 inches. As I described at the beginning of the review, the MA-25 is lightweight, compact, and easy to carry.

What’s in the box?

You will receive a Medify MA-25 air purifier, two 3-in-1 filters, and a user manual when you purchase the device.

The Medify MA-25 requires some preparation before the first run. I recommend everyone read the installation tips for this device at the beginning of the review if you haven’t already.

Features Overview

The Medify MA-25 is not a smart air purifier. Still, it has all the necessary features to meet the basic needs. Although extras such as a smart sensor, auto mode, and the like would be a big plus for this model, I feel that they are unnecessary.

Medify MA-25 Air Purifier - Placed on the Floor
The Medify MA-25 is not a smart air purifier, but it has everything you will need from an air purifier. Photo: Airpurifierfirst.com / Milan Antonic

You will be able to use this air purifier with the features it offers easily every day.

Timer

A timer is a handy option that sets the time when you want the air purifier to switch itself off. The timer of the Medify MA-25 can be set to 1h, 2h, 4h, or 8h. This handy option allows you to program the operation of this petite air purifier to a certain extent.

Child Lock

A child lock is also a handy option if you want to lock the touch buttons and prevent accidental switching off or changing the settings.

The child lock is activated by pressing the button for 3 seconds. The air purifier will not respond to any button press after that. To deactivate a child lock, you only need to hold your finger on this button for 3 seconds once more.

Dimmer

The Dimmer option can be handy because the Medify MA-25 does not have a built-in sleep mode. By combining it with Speed 1, you can feel that the device is working as it is in sleep mode.

Medify has 4 different brightness levels for all buttons. The brightness changes every time you press the dimmer button.

Filter Reset Indicator

A filter reset indicator is a handy option that allows you to relax rather than manually keep track of when it’s time to change the filter. The Filter Reset Indicator is an icon with two filters drawn on it. It is not visible until it is time to change the filter.

When it is time to change the filter, this icon will light up red. The icon is located at the top of the control panel, just above the dimmer button.

After changing the filter, it is necessary to reset this indicator. This is done by holding your finger on the dimmer button for 3 seconds.

Room Coverage

The Medify MA-25 is a small air purifier best used in rooms up to 171 sq. ft. (16 m²). This air purifier will clean the air 4.8 times in a room of this size, which is the ACH rating and is also the market standard for determining coverage.

Medify MA-25 Air Purifier - On Small Desk
I suggest using the Medify MA-25 in rooms up to 171 sq. ft. (16 m²) in size. Photo: Airpurifierfirst.com / Milan Antonic

The MA-25 has a CADR of 135 CFM (230m³/h), which indicates how powerful the Medify MA-25 is. In addition, the Medify MA-25 will clean the air in a 820 sq. ft. room every 60 minutes, in a 410 sq. ft. room every 30 minutes, while in a 206 sq. ft. room, it will clean the air every 15 minutes.

ConditionRequired minimum Air Changes per Hour (ACH)Suitable room sizeThe time it takes to clean the air in the room
Smoke or VOCs8103 sq. ft.8 min
AHAM standard (recommended for many conditions)4.8171 sq. ft.13 min
Normal conditions2410 sq. ft.30 min

The Medify MA-25 is a small air purifier that perfectly fits a bedroom, small living room, office, or kitchen. You can use this air purifier in rooms slightly larger than the recommended dimensions, mainly because the MA-25 performed very well in performance tests in rooms larger than the recommended ones.

You mentioned that it would be better to have exhaust to the top. Then, maybe put the device on its back, so the front will be directed to the ceiling.

  2. mike

I wished you did a 500 sq. ft. test for your 60 min test so you would have fleshed out the seller’s claim that it can clean 500 sq. ft. twice in 60 mins.

    • Milan Antonic

Yes, it can clean a 500 sq. ft. room twice in one hour and 4.8 times in a 210 sq. ft. room. By the way, 4.8 ACH is the industry standard.
