Levoit Core 200S Vs Medify MA-25 – Comparison (W/Charts)

Could the Medify MA-25's dual filtration be enough to bet the Levoit Core 200S air purifier, or would it need something more than that?

Levoit and Medify are well-known brands in the air purifiers world, primarily focused on selling air purifiers. In this article, I will present a detailed analysis of the Levoit Core 200S and Medify MA-25 air purifiers.

I will compare their performance, noise levels, operating costs, and other aspects.

Firstly, I want to highlight that these are compact air purifiers designed for small rooms. The Levoit Core 200S covers rooms up to 183 sq. ft. (17 m²), while the Medify MA-25 covers rooms up to 171 sq. ft. (16 m²). In rooms of the recommended dimensions, these two devices will clean the air 4.8 times in one hour.

In addition to similar room coverage, the build quality of both devices is quite similar. Both are made of plastic and have decent build quality.

However, the design, filter shape, and the number of filters differ between these models. Medify uses two identical filters placed on the sides, while Levoit uses one filter located on the bottom half of the device.

What I particularly like about the Core 200S is its advanced features, which are the complete opposite of the Medify MA-25, which has only basic options.

Keep reading to find out which of these two models is the better choice and which one I absolutely recommend.

Our Verdict

I have to say that the Medify MA-25 slightly outperformed the Levoit Core 200S in performance tests, but the Levoit did much better in all other tests.

Even though Medify showed slightly better performance, I chose the Levoit Core 200S as the better choice to buy. Levoit boasts many more options, longer-lasting and much cheaper filters, and is more affordable to maintain. In addition, Levoit is much quieter in operation than the Medify MA-25.

All this makes the Levoit Core 200S a much better value for the money than the Medify MA-25.

If you have any questions about these two devices, you can leave a comment at the end of the article.

Particle Removal Test – Comparison

The particle removal test is one of the most important tests when evaluating an air purifier. However, before we move on to the testing results, I want to touch on the room coverage.

The Levoit Core 200S covers rooms up to 183 sq. ft. (17 m²), while the Medify MA-25 covers rooms up to 171 sq. ft. (16 m²). Both air purifiers will clean the air 4.8 times in one hour in such a room.

Particle Removal Tests - Comparison

We placed the Levoit Core 200S and Medify MA-25 in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.

As their room coverage is very similar, we tested them both in a 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) room. We placed them in the room, measured the initial air quality, and let them run for 60 minutes, after which we measured the air improvement.

The Levoit Core 200S improved the air quality by 91%, while the Medify MA-25 was slightly better, with an improvement of 94%. I also want to point out that the Medify is much better at odor neutralization than the Levoit.

Obviously, the larger CADR and two filters are the reasons Medify performed better in the particle removal tests.

Smoke Box Test – Comparison

Before comparing these two air purifiers’ smoke test results, I strongly believed that the Medify MA-25 would have a faster result, mostly because of its dual filtration.

However, it did better by only 1 second. It took 31 seconds to remove all the smoke from the glass box, while the Levoit Core 200S took 32 seconds.

For such small air purifiers, these are great results, but their main competitor, the Levoit Core 300S, did it in 20 seconds. To be clear, it has a CADR similar to these two.

Noise Level Test – Comparison

The Levoit has one more fan speed and is much better optimized at all speeds (except at the lowest speed). This is especially surprising to me because the Levoit has just slightly lower CADR, which made me expect very similar motor noise.

Noise Levels - Comparison

Comparison of noise levels at all fan speeds between the Levoit Core 200S and Medify MA-25 air purifiers.

At the lowest speeds, the Levoit Core 200S produces a sound of 42.1 dBA, while the Medify MA-25 produces a sound of 41.8 dBA.

However, at maximum speeds, the difference is much greater and in favor of the Levoit. The Levoit produces a sound of only 53.9 dBA, while the Medify MA-25 is much louder, producing a sound of 64.0 dBA.

Fan Speed Medify MA-25 (dBA)Levoit Core 200S (dBA)
Sleep Mode-42.1 dBA
Speed 1 (Low)41.8 dBA44.9 dBA
Speed 2 (Medium)50.3 dBA48.5 dBA
Speed 3 (High)64 dBA53.9 dBA

All in all, it is more than obvious that the Levoit is better optimized for noise, making it a much quieter air purifier than the Medify.

Operating Costs – Comparison

However, when it comes to electricity consumption, the situation is somewhat different, except for the consumption at max speed.

The Levoit uses a 37W motor, while the Medify MA-25 uses a 28W motor. If you were to use these two devices at max speed, 24 hours a day, for a period of one month, your electricity bill would increase by about $2.31 for the Medify MA-25 and about $2.16 for the Levoit Core 200S air purifier.

Monthly Power Consumption Cost - Comparison

Comparison of monthly power consumption costs for the Levoit Core 200S and Medify MA-25 air purifiers at all fan speeds.

Besides the cost of electricity consumption, there is also the cost of replacement filters, which need to be changed much more frequently in the case of the Medify.

Not only that, but the Medify filters are also much more expensive than the Levoit filters.

Fan Speed Medify MA-25 (W + $/month)Levoit Core 200S (W + $/month)
Standby0.1W ($0.01)0.6W ($0.05)
Sleep Mode- 12.7W ($1.11)
Speed 1 (Low)1.6W ($0.14)16.8W ($1.47)
Speed 2 (Medium)7.3W ($0.64)19.5W ($1.71)
Speed 3 (High)26.3W ($2.31)24.6W ($2.16)

This means that if we sum up the electricity consumption and the cost of replacement filters, we can say that the Levoit Core 200S is more affordable to maintain than the Medify MA-25.
