In this article, I will compare two popular air purifiers – Smartmi P1 and Xiaomi 4 Compact. Both air purifiers are made by renowned companies and come equipped with three-stage filtration technology. Let’s dive into the comparison and see which is better for you.
As I said, they both use a three-stage filtration technology consisting of a pre-filter, a True HEPA filter (Xiaomi’s High Efficiency-Filter), and an activated carbon filter. They are CARB certified, don’t produce ozone, and are 100% safe to use. I favor Xiaomi’s carbon filter, as it is made of carbon pellets, which is a more reliable technology than the fibrous filters coated with carbon, as is the case with the Smartmi’s carbon filter.
These two devices are fully smart-oriented. You can fully control them through the smart apps available for Android and iOS devices. The Smartmi has a special app made just for the air purifier, while Xiaomi uses the Mi Home app, their general app for all devices in the Xiaomi ecosystem.

Which One Does It Better?
Frankly, this is one of the hardest battles I have ever faced. The Smartmi P1 and Xiaomi 4 Compact are so similar; they performed almost identically in all tests and have almost the same characteristics.
However, if I had to buy an air purifier right now, I would go with the Smartmi P1 instead of the Xiaomi 4 Compact. I like Xiaomi’s smart app, but the Smartmi P1 performed slightly better, it is quieter in sleep mode, and I like what it looks like.
