Levoit and Blueair are exclusively focused on producing air purifiers. Both manufacturers are characterized by reliable and high-quality air purifiers, which is why they are so popular and frequently compared among customers.

In this comparison, I will compare Blueair 211+ and Levoit Vital 100 air purifiers. My first thought is that this comparison is unfair because Blueair is a much bigger and more powerful air purifier than Levoit. However, other characteristics such as price, electricity consumption, filter quality, and other specifications could often determine the winner.

Blueair 211+ covers rooms up to 540 sq. ft., while the Levoit Vital 100 covers much smaller rooms, up to 300 sq. ft. In terms of dimensions, Blueair is much larger than Levoit; it also has larger filters and logically higher airflow.

Blueair is made of a combination of metal and plastic. It has a fibrous pre-filter available in five colors, making it very modern and easily adaptable to almost any environment. On the other hand, Levoit is made of plastic, the build quality is very good, it is available in white and gray, and it looks modern.

Below, I will compare all the specifications of these two devices, compare the noise, performance, power usage, and other features and determine which air purifier is the better choice to buy.

Levoit Vs Blueair Features

In essence, Levoit Vital 100 and Blueair 211+ are completely contrasting air purifiers. Levoit is equipped with advanced options that are practical in the everyday use of the device. At the same time, Blueair is an entirely minimalistic air purifier that uses only one button for control, and it has almost no advanced options.

The only Blueair-specific option that is also available on Levoit is the filter reset indicator, which will let you know when it’s time to replace the old filters.

Also, Blueair remembers the last used speed and gets turned on as soon as it comes in contact with electricity. This means that you can easily connect this air purifier with a smart plug and thus make it semi-smart.

Timer

The timer is a very useful option available only on the Levoit Vital 100 air purifier. In essence, the timer allows you to set the time after which the air purifier will turn off.

On the Vital 100, the timer can be set to 2h, 4h, or 8h.

Display Off

Display Off is also a beneficial option, which is not available on the Blueair 211+. This option is used to turn off all the indicators on the device in one click.

This feature can be handy if you use an air purifier in the bedroom and if you can’t bear any lighting at night.

Airflow

From the first encounter with these two air purifiers and a look at their construction, it is clear that they have a completely different airflow.

The Blueair 211+ draws in air at the bottom through openings spread on all sides, while the Levoit Vital 100 draws air in through the front. The air is then filtered and exits through openings at the top, the same for both air purifiers.

Warranty

When it comes to warranty, there is not much difference as both Levoit and Blueair offer a 2-year warranty on these two air purifiers.

What I would recommend to everyone is to register the device on the manufacturer’s website immediately after purchase.

Filtration Technology

I already mentioned at the beginning that these are two very high-quality air purifiers with outstanding and very efficient filters.

Both devices use 3-stage filtration technology. However, Blueair has HEPASilent technology as the 4th filtration stage. HEPASilent is essentially an ionizer, which is always on. Fortunately, the device is CARB certified, which means that it does not produce an unallowed amount of ozone and is entirely safe to use.

The first filtration stage on both devices is the pre-filter, which is washable on Blueair. The second stage of filtration on Blueair is the particle filter, while on Levoit, it is the activated carbon filter. The third filtration stage on Levoit is the True HEPA filter, while on Blueair, it is a fibrous filter coated with carbon.

I prefer Levoit’s True HEPA filter, which is basically the essential and most deserving filtration stage. In addition, I think Levoit has a better quality carbon filter, especially since it is pellet-based.

In essence, both devices use high-quality filters, which is confirmed by the fantastic results in performance tests.

How to Replace Filters?

I already mentioned that the Blueair 211+ uses a washable pre-filter, and it’s the only filter that doesn’t need to be changed. Other filters on both devices are not washable and need to be changed from time to time.

Filters on Levoit last on average between 6-8 months, while on Blueair, they last about 6 months.

The good thing about both devices is that they have a filter reset indicator, which means you don’t have to track when it’s time to replace the filter because the filter reset indicator will light up as a warning to replace old filters.

Noise Tests

When it comes to testing the noise of these two devices, I have to say that neither air purifier has anything to highlight here. Neither Blueair nor Levoit have sleep mode, making it difficult to use any of them in the bedroom.

What makes me happy in the case of Levoit is that it is very quiet on the first speed, on which it produces a sound of 41.9 dBA, while Blueair produces a sound of 43.9 dBA on the same fan speed.

On maximum speeds, the situation is somewhat different, and here Blueair is slightly quieter than Levoit. However, I like the sound of Levoit’s motor much more, as it works somehow more smoothly and is much more pleasant to hear.

Overall, although a bit louder on max speed, in my opinion, the Levoit Vital 100 is a quieter air purifier than the Blueair 211+.

Performance Tests

If we compare the room coverage of these two air purifiers, we can say that the Blueair 211+ has a slight advantage because it covers larger rooms. However, the Levoit Vital 100 did not fail in the tests either, and it showed excellent performance.

In the sections below, I will show all the tests I did on these devices, and of course, I will compare the results and highlight the better ones. 

320 sq. ft. Room Tests

In the first test, in a room of 320 sq. ft. I put both devices work on max speed for 60 minutes. During that time, working at maximum speed, the Blueair 211+ improved air quality by about 96%, while the Levoit Vital 100 improved air quality by about 93%.

These are more than good results, somewhat expected for the Blueair 211+ but unexpectedly good for the Levoit Vital 100.

Other Tests

In addition to the previously mentioned test, I tested these two air purifiers in some other rooms.

In the 560 sq. ft. room, Blueair 211+ improved air quality by about 92%. On the contrary, the Levoit Vital 100 improved air quality by about 95% in a room of 194 sq. ft.

If we take all the tests into account, it is evident that the Blueair 211+ performed much better than the Levoit Vital 100.

Operating Costs

Frankly, I thought that Levoit was several times less an electricity consumer than Blueair, but that is not the case. Levoit Vital 100 has a motor power of 55W, while Blueair 211+ has a motor power of 61W.

If you left these two devices running on max speed, 24 hours a day, and so on for a month, your electricity bill would be increased by about $ 5 in the case of Levoit and by approximately $ 4.3 in the case of Blueair.

However, in addition to electricity consumption, there is also the price of replacement filters, which are slightly more expensive for Blueair. This means that if we sum up the cost of replacement filters and electricity consumption, we get that the Levoit Vital 100 is slightly cheaper to maintain on an annual basis than the Blueair 211+.
