TruSens Z-1000 Vs Medify MA-25 – Small Air Purifiers Comp.

These compact air purifiers are equipped with small filters but produce great performance. Should you choose the Medify MA-25 or the TruSens Z-1000?

Many new air purifier brands have appeared on the market recently, especially in the last few years when this market expanded significantly.

This is my first comparison of TruSens and Medify Air purifiers, which is why I believe this will be an exciting and long-awaited review.

The Medify MA-25 and TruSens Z-1000 are two small air purifiers, totally different in almost every aspect, but they cover nearly identical room sizes. The Medify MA-25 covers rooms up to 171 sq. ft. (16 m²), while the TruSens Z-1000 covers rooms up to 88 sq. ft. (8.2 m²).

Both use three-stage filtration technology, but the Medify uses slightly more efficient and higher-quality filters.

As for build quality, I prefer the TruSens because it uses better plastic. It comes with a 2-year warranty, whereas the Medify MA-25 offers the possibility of a lifetime warranty, but only if you subscribe to regular filter replacements through its website.

Detailed analysis of all the tests, performances, and characteristics showed that the Medify MA-25 is a better buying option than the TruSens Z-1000.

I like both air purifiers, but the Medify MA-25 offers more. It has many more features, performed better in performance tests, has two filters, includes a True HEPA filter, and offers a lifetime warranty — which is more than enough to declare it the winner in this comparison.

Performance Test – Comparison

Regarding the particle removal test, let me first compare their CADRs. The Medify MA-25 is a bit more powerful air purifier with a CADR of 110 CFM (187 m³/h). On the other hand, the TruSens Z-1000 has a CADR of 56 CFM (95 m³/h).

Particle Removal Tests - Comparison

We placed the TruSens Z-1000 and Medify MA-25 in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.

Even though they both have coverage smaller than the rooms we tested them in, I must say that they delivered outstanding results.

In the first test, in a 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) room, the TruSens improved the air quality by 93%, while the Medify MA-25 was about 1% better.

However, in the test in a 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) room, they achieved identical results. Both improved the air quality by 91%. In both tests, they were run at their maximum speeds for a period of 60 minutes.

In the performance tests, the Medify MA-25 showed slightly better performance.

Smoke Box Test – Comparison

Such small air purifiers usually need more time to remove all the smoke from the glass box.

However, I can’t say that these two were slow, especially the Medify, which removed all the smoke in just 31 seconds.

On the other hand, the TruSens needed 40 seconds to remove all the smoke.

The Medify was almost 10 seconds faster than the TruSens, but it also has much larger filters and a higher CADR, which directly affects an air purifier’s performance in this test.

Noise Level Test – Comparison

What I like about these air purifiers is that they both have the same number of fan speeds. With three fan speeds, it is easier to compare their noise levels.

Noise Levels - Comparison

Comparison of noise levels at all fan speeds between the TruSens Z-1000 and Medify MA-25 air purifiers.

At the lowest speed, the Medify MA-25 is slightly quieter, producing a sound of 41.8 dBA, while the TruSens Z-1000 produces a sound of 43.8 dBA.

The Medify MA-25 is quieter even at the maximum speed, producing a sound of 64 dBA, while the TruSens produces a sound of 64.4 dBA.

Fan Speed Leitz TruSens Z-1000 (dBA)Medify MA-25 (dBA)
Speed 1 (Low)43.8 dBA41.8 dBA
Speed 2 (Medium)51.2 dBA50.3 dBA
Speed 3 (High)64.4 dBA64 dBA

The Medify MA-25 is the clear winner here, as shown in the chart provided and the table above. It’s a quieter air purifier at all speeds.

Operating Costs – Comparison

Not only is the Medify MA-25 a quieter air purifier, but it is also much better optimized for power use.

This small device uses a motor of only 28W, while the TruSens Z-1000 uses a motor of 40W.

Monthly Power Consumption Cost - Comparison

Comparison of monthly power consumption costs for the TruSens Z-1000 and Medify MA-25 air purifiers at all fan speeds.

If you used them at their maximum speeds, 24 hours daily, for one month, your electric bill would increase by about $2.31 with the Medify MA-25 and by about $3.61 with the TruSens Z-1000.

I have said many times in reviews and comparisons here at Air Purifier First that Medify is one of the most expensive air purifier brands maintenance-wise. The same is true for the MA-25 model.

Fan Speed Leitz TruSens Z-1000 (W + $/month)Medify MA-25 (W + $/month)
Standby0.2W ($0.02)0.1W ($0.01)
Speed 1 (Low)9.4W ($0.82)1.6W ($0.14)
Speed 2 (Medium)18.7W ($1.64)7.3W ($0.64)
Speed 3 (High)41.2W ($3.61)26.3W ($2.31)

This model uses short-lasting filters that are also not cheap to buy. This high cost puts it aside and makes the TruSens Z-1000 much more affordable for maintenance.
