Full Review
Xiaomi has made significant improvements with its fourth generation of air purifiers. So far, I’ve only tested the smallest model in the lineup, the Xiaomi 4 Compact.
Recently, however, I purchased the Xiaomi 4 Lite air purifier. This medium-sized device offers an impressive CADR of 212 CFM (360 m³/h), a three-layer filtration technology, and plenty of advanced features.
What caught my attention about this model was its excellent price, outstanding performance, and specifications that are only slightly below those of the larger fourth-generation Xiaomi models.
In this review, we’ll review its performance, noise levels, operating costs, and all the key specifications and features. Keep reading to see how it performed in our tests.
How We Tested the Xiaomi 4 Lite?
1. For the filter efficiency testing, we used the Temtop LKC-1000S laser particle meter, which measures PM2.5 (µg/m3), PM10 (µg/m3), Particles (per/L), and HCHO (mg/m3) in the air, and also calculates the AQI.
2. We placed the Xiaomi 4 Lite in two separate performance tests, one in a 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) room and the other in a 560 sq. ft. (52 m²) room. Then, we recorded the initial air quality values using the Temtop laser particle meter and let the Xiaomi 4 Lite run at maximum speed.
3. After 60 minutes, we measured the new values using the Temtop laser particle meter and saved the data.
4. Next, we placed the Xiaomi 4 Lite in a glass box, which we then filled with smoke. Then, we measured how much time was needed for the air purifier to remove all the smoke from the box.
5. Using a special noise measurement tool, we tested the air purifier’s noise level at all speeds. We measured the noise level on the dBA scale.
6. Finally, we measured the power usage at all speeds using an energy meter, after which we calculated how much it would cost to use the device at a particular fan speed for one month. For reference, we used an energy price of $0.12 per kWh.

Filtration Technology
The Xiaomi 4 Lite features a 3-stage filtration technology, which includes a pre-filter, Xiaomi’s High-Efficiency Filter, and an activated carbon filter.
The filter is cylindrical, hollow at the center, and located in the lower half of the device.
A key point to highlight is that the Xiaomi 4 Lite doesn’t use an ionizer, meaning it produces no ozone and is completely safe to use. Additionally, it’s CARB-certified.
According to Xiaomi, this filter can reduce the H1N1 virus in the air, further demonstrating the high efficiency of this model.
Xiaomi 4 Lite Replacement Filter
Always buy genuine filters for the best performance. As soon as the filter reset indicator is on, you are ready to change filters. Do it as quickly as possible.
Check Filter Price On AmazonPre-filter
The first stage of filtration is the pre-filter, which is a nylon mesh attached to the main filter.
This type of filtration is common in cylindrical filters but is slightly less efficient compared to detachable pre-filters found in rectangular air purifiers.
The pre-filter captures large particles, such as dust, hair, pet fur, and other large airborne particles. By doing so, it helps extend the lifespan of the main filter and improves the overall efficiency of the device.
It’s important to note that the pre-filter should be cleaned at least twice a month or more frequently if the air purifier is used extensively.
Xiaomi’s High Efficiency Filter
The most essential component of the Xiaomi 4 Lite air purifier is Xiaomi’s High-Efficiency Filter, which captures 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns.
This filter effectively removes particles such as pet hair, pollen, dust, smoke, pet dander, and similar contaminants from the air.
Xiaomi’s filter integrates melt-blown PP fibers with electrostatic technology and features a larger fiber spacing. This design allows more clean air to pass through the filter efficiently.
Most importantly, Xiaomi’s High-Efficiency Filter delivers the same level of performance as traditional True HEPA filters.
Activated Carbon Filter
The final stage of filtration is the activated carbon filter, which is pellet-based and contains approximately 450g of carbon.
This stage is designed to neutralize unpleasant odors, such as pet smells, cooking fumes, VOCs, formaldehyde, and similar pollutants.
Xiaomi states that its carbon filter effectively removes formaldehyde from the air. With FCADR of 120 m³/h, this model demonstrates a high level of efficiency in formaldehyde removal.
How to Replace the Xiaomi 4 Lite Filter?
This air purifier doesn’t use washable filters, so the filter must be replaced periodically, typically once a year.
Fortunately, the Xiaomi 4 Lite features a filter reset indicator that notifies you when it’s time to replace the filter.
The filter replacement process is straightforward and involves just a few simple steps. To prolong the life of the filter, I recommend cleaning the pre-filter at least twice a month, or even more frequently if possible.
Setup and Installation
Before using the Xiaomi 4 Lite for the first time, there are a few simple steps to complete.
The air purifier comes with the filter already installed, but you’ll need to prepare it for use. Start by separating the top part of the device by rotating it to one side. Next, pull out the filter and unpack it.
Once unpacked, place the filter back inside the device and securely reattach the bottom cover.
Finally, position the air purifier in your desired location, ensuring it is at least 8 inches (20 cm) away from walls and other objects. Plug it in, and turn it on.
Design
The Xiaomi 4 Lite features a sleek, square design with clean, beveled edges. It’s a modern-looking and well-built air purifier that seamlessly fits into almost any environment.
The device consists of two main parts: the bottom section, which houses the filter and air inlets, and the top section, which contains the motor, air quality sensor, control buttons, OLED display, and air outlets.
It comes in a clean white color with a few light gray details. However, it doesn’t include carrying handles, which could be considered a minor design drawback.
But, the Xiaomi 4 Lite is a lightweight device, making it easy to move from place to place, even without carrying handles.
OLED Display and Controls
The Xiaomi 4 Lite has three buttons on its body. The first button is located at the back of the device and is used to adjust the display brightness.
Additionally, there are two buttons on the top of the device, positioned in the left and right corners. These are used to power the device on and to adjust the fan speed or working mode.
Using the mode button, you can toggle between auto mode, night mode, and manual/favorite mode (indicated by a heart icon).
On the front of the device is an OLED display that provides real-time PM2.5 data, indoor temperature, and humidity readings, as well as indicators for Wi-Fi connectivity and operating mode.
At the bottom of the device is a small indicator light that changes color based on the current air quality. I’ll explain this feature more deeply later in the article.
Airflow
The Xiaomi 4 Lite is a rectangular air purifier with air intake openings on the lower half of the device, distributed on all sides.
Air passes through these openings, is then filtered, and exits through the grilles on the top of the device.
Size and Dimensions
The dimensions of the Xiaomi 4 Lite air purifier are 9.4 x 9.4 x 21 inches (24 × 24 × 53.4 cm). It weighs 10.6 lb (4.8 kg).

When you buy the Xiaomi 4 Lite air purifier, you’ll get 1x Air Purifier, 1x Filter, 1x Power Cable, and 1x User Manual.
Features Overview
Xiaomi is a well-known brand that is recognized for creating some of the smartest devices on the market, and its air purifier lineup is no exception.
Every Xiaomi air purifier is compatible with the Mi Home smart app, which unlocks a wide range of advanced features when connected.
Some of the most important features include remote control, voice control, manual mode, auto mode, and automation.
Air Quality Sensor
The Xiaomi 4 Lite features a built-in air quality sensor that detects PM2.5 particulate matter in real-time.
This sensor works perfectly with other features of the air purifier, such as the air quality indicator and auto mode.
However, after comparing the Xiaomi sensor’s readings with those of the Temtop laser particle meter, I found that the Xiaomi sensor isn’t as precise. However, it’s still accurate enough to detect when the air quality is polluted.
The air quality sensor is located at the back of the device and works even when the air purifier is turned off. This allows you to check air quality data anytime through the smart app.
The sensor comes pre-calibrated and doesn’t require manual calibration. However, it’s important to clean it periodically and remove any remaining dust to ensure the most accurate air quality readings.
Humidity and Temperature Sensor
In addition to the air quality sensor, the Xiaomi 4 Lite features humidity and temperature sensor. The temperature and humidity readings are displayed directly on the device’s screen.
This data is also accessible through the smart app.
Air Quality Indicator
The air quality indicator is an LED light located on the display that changes color based on the current air quality.
Air quality indicator color | Air quality pollution level |
---|---|
Green | Fresh and clean |
Yellow | Low pollution |
Orange | Moderate pollution |
Red | High pollution |
This indicator has four states, as presented in the table above.
Additionally, the display shows real-time PM2.5 readings. All of this information is also accessible through the smart app.
Auto Mode
The auto mode is another feature that works in combination with the smart sensor. When in auto mode, the air purifier adjusts the fan speed based on the current air quality.
For example, if the air quality in your space is unhealthy, the device will automatically switch to the highest speed. As the air quality improves, the fan speed will gradually lower.
This is a great feature, allowing you to set the air purifier and let it operate by itself.
However, I recommend running the air purifier at maximum speed for the first few minutes to quickly improve air quality and then switching to auto mode.
Child Lock
The child lock is another handy feature that lets you lock the control buttons on your device, preventing anyone from changing the working mode you’ve set.
This feature can only be activated through the smart app, but it can be deactivated directly on the device by holding the mode switch button for seven seconds.
Display Brightness
This feature allows you to adjust the brightness of the display located at the front of the device.
You can change the brightness in two ways. The first is by pressing the button on the back of the Xiaomi air purifier. Each press cycles through the three states: on, dim, and off.
Alternatively, you can adjust the brightness directly through the Mi Home app.
Warranty
Xiaomi offers a one-year warranty for the 4 Lite model.
This isn’t a generous warranty, but many air purifier manufacturers offer no more than one year of warranty for their air purifiers.
Mi Home App
The Mi Home app is a universal platform for all devices in the Xiaomi ecosystem. It’s well-designed and functions without any issues.
Connecting your Xiaomi air purifier to the Mi Home smart app is a simple process that requires no special knowledge. Just follow the on-screen instructions, and you’re good to go.
Main Dashboard and Controls
When you open the app and select your connected air purifier, you’ll access the main dashboard. From here, you can remotely control the device and view data collected by its sensors.
At the top of the dashboard, you’ll see information about the current air quality, including PM2.5 concentration, temperature, and humidity.
Below this, you’ll find buttons for full control of the device, including auto, sleep, and manual modes. Manual mode is one of the most valuable features of the app, which allows you to switch between fifteen different fan speeds.
Additional settings accessible from this screen include scheduling, automation, and an option to revert to the old app design.
Automation
Automation is a highly useful feature in the smart app that allows you to make your device even smarter by handling more tasks automatically.
For example, I set my air purifier to turn off automatically when the PM2.5 particulate matter level drops below 10 µg/m³. I chose this setting because this level already indicates good air quality, and there’s no need to wait for it to drop further for the Xiaomi to reduce its speed to the minimum.
You can experiment with these options to customize the air purifier to suit your needs, automating it in unlimited ways.
