What caught my attention about this model was its excellent price, outstanding performance, and specifications that are only slightly below those of the larger fourth-generation Xiaomi models.

In this review, we’ll review its performance, noise levels, operating costs, and all the key specifications and features. Keep reading to see how it performed in our tests.

How We Tested the Xiaomi 4 Lite?

1. For the filter efficiency testing, we used the Temtop LKC-1000S laser particle meter, which measures PM2.5 (µg/m3), PM10 (µg/m3), Particles (per/L), and HCHO (mg/m3) in the air, and also calculates the AQI.

2. We placed the Xiaomi 4 Lite in two separate performance tests, one in a 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) room and the other in 560 sq. ft. (52 m²) room. Then, we recorded the initial air quality values using the Temtop laser particle meter and let the Xiaomi 4 Lite run at maximum speed.

Performance – Particle Removal Tests

The Xiaomi 4 Lite isn’t a small air purifier; in fact, I would classify it as a medium-sized device. To review its performance, we tested it in two large rooms.

Once again, Xiaomi has pleasantly surprised me. The fourth generation of their air purifiers shows noticeable improvements over the third, particularly in terms of performance.

I believe the Xiaomi 4 Lite can be used effectively in rooms slightly larger than the recommended dimensions, though not too much larger.

As with most of the models I’ve tested, I used this one in my home for some time. What stood out to me was its ability to handle kitchen odors effectively and its quick capture of airborne dust particles—especially those visible in the air.

This makes it highly useful and effective in bedrooms as well.

Testing in a 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) Room

In the first test, we placed the Xiaomi 4 Lite in a 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) room, which is slightly smaller than its recommended coverage area.

Using a Temtop laser particle meter, we measured the air quality improvement over 60 minutes with the purifier running at maximum speed.

The Xiaomi 4 Lite delivered excellent results, reducing PM2.5 particle concentration from 106.5 to 5.3 µg/m³—a remarkable 95% improvement in air quality.

# Starting Baseline After 60 min
PM 2.5 106.5 µg/m³ 5.3 µg/m³
PM 10 149.1 µg/m³ 7.5 µg/m³
Particles 154449 per/L 7779 per/L
AQI 139 7

Compared to similar air purifiers, this result ranks among the best. Only a few models, such as the Levoit Vital 200S and Coway AP-1512HH, performed slightly better in the same test, achieving around a 96% improvement.

Particle Removal Test Room - Comparison

Comparison between the Xiaomi 4 Lite and its competitors in particle removal tests in a 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) room.

On the other hand, many devices fell short; for instance, the Mila air purifier improved air quality by only 92% in similar conditions.

Overall, the Xiaomi 4 Lite excelled in this test, confirming the high efficiency of its filtration technology and the impressive specifications that define this model.

Testing in a 560 sq. ft. (52 m²) Room

In the second test, performed in a much larger room than the recommended size (560 sq. ft. or 52 m²), the Xiaomi 4 Lite delivered impressive results.

In just 60 minutes at maximum speed, the air purifier improved air quality by 90%.

# Starting Baseline After 60 min
PM 2.5 105.8 µg/m³ 10.4 µg/m³
PM 10 148.2 µg/m³ 14.1 µg/m³
Particles 153496 per/L 14661 per/L
AQI 136 13

This demonstrates that the Xiaomi 4 Lite can effectively operate in rooms slightly larger than its recommended coverage area.

Pre-filter

The first stage of filtration is the pre-filter, which is a nylon mesh attached to the main filter.

This type of filtration is common in cylindrical filters but is slightly less efficient compared to detachable pre-filters found in rectangular air purifiers.

The pre-filter captures large particles, such as dust, hair, pet fur, and other large airborne particles. By doing so, it helps extend the lifespan of the main filter and improves the overall efficiency of the device.

It’s important to note that the pre-filter should be cleaned at least twice a month or more frequently if the air purifier is used extensively.

Xiaomi’s High Efficiency Filter

The most essential component of the Xiaomi 4 Lite air purifier is Xiaomi’s High-Efficiency Filter, which captures 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns.

This filter effectively removes particles such as pet hair, pollen, dust, smoke, pet dander, and similar contaminants from the air.

Xiaomi’s filter integrates melt-blown PP fibers with electrostatic technology and features a larger fiber spacing. This design allows more clean air to pass through the filter efficiently.

Most importantly, Xiaomi’s High-Efficiency Filter delivers the same level of performance as traditional True HEPA filters.

Activated Carbon Filter

The final stage of filtration is the activated carbon filter, which is pellet-based and contains approximately 450g of carbon.

This stage is designed to neutralize unpleasant odors, such as pet smells, cooking fumes, VOCs, formaldehyde, and similar pollutants.

Xiaomi states that its carbon filter effectively removes formaldehyde from the air. With FCADR of 120 m³/h, this model demonstrates a high level of efficiency in formaldehyde removal.

How to Replace the Xiaomi 4 Lite Filter?

This air purifier doesn’t use washable filters, so the filter must be replaced periodically, typically once a year.

Fortunately, the Xiaomi 4 Lite features a filter reset indicator that notifies you when it’s time to replace the filter.

The filter replacement process is straightforward and involves just a few simple steps. To prolong the life of the filter, I recommend cleaning the pre-filter at least twice a month, or even more frequently if possible.

Setup and Installation

Before using the Xiaomi 4 Lite for the first time, there are a few simple steps to complete.

The air purifier comes with the filter already installed, but you’ll need to prepare it for use. Start by separating the top part of the device by rotating it to one side. Next, pull out the filter and unpack it.

This is a great feature, allowing you to set the air purifier and let it operate by itself.

However, I recommend running the air purifier at maximum speed for the first few minutes to quickly improve air quality and then switching to auto mode.

Child Lock

The child lock is another handy feature that lets you lock the control buttons on your device, preventing anyone from changing the working mode you’ve set.

This feature can only be activated through the smart app, but it can be deactivated directly on the device by holding the mode switch button for seven seconds.

Display Brightness

This feature allows you to adjust the brightness of the display located at the front of the device.

You can change the brightness in two ways. The first is by pressing the button on the back of the Xiaomi air purifier. Each press cycles through the three states: on, dim, and off.

Alternatively, you can adjust the brightness directly through the Mi Home app.

Warranty

Xiaomi offers a one-year warranty for the 4 Lite model.

This isn’t a generous warranty, but many air purifier manufacturers offer no more than one year of warranty for their air purifiers.

Mi Home App

The Mi Home app is a universal platform for all devices in the Xiaomi ecosystem. It’s well-designed and functions without any issues.

Connecting your Xiaomi air purifier to the Mi Home smart app is a simple process that requires no special knowledge. Just follow the on-screen instructions, and you’re good to go.

Main Dashboard and Controls

When you open the app and select your connected air purifier, you’ll access the main dashboard. From here, you can remotely control the device and view data collected by its sensors.

At the top of the dashboard, you’ll see information about the current air quality, including PM2.5 concentration, temperature, and humidity.

Xiaomi 4 Lite - Main Dashboard and Controls

Below this, you’ll find buttons for full control of the device, including auto, sleep, and manual modes. Manual mode is one of the most valuable features of the app, which allows you to switch between fifteen different fan speeds.

Additional settings accessible from this screen include scheduling, automation, and an option to revert to the old app design.

Automation

Automation is a highly useful feature in the smart app that allows you to make your device even smarter by handling more tasks automatically.

Main Dashboard and Controls - Automation

For example, I set my air purifier to turn off automatically when the PM2.5 particulate matter level drops below 10 µg/m³. I chose this setting because this level already indicates good air quality, and there’s no need to wait for it to drop further for the Xiaomi to reduce its speed to the minimum.

You can experiment with these options to customize the air purifier to suit your needs, automating it in unlimited ways.
