Levoit Dual 150 Humidifier – Hands-on Review

Levoit Dual 150 is an ultrasonic cool mist humidifier with a 3L tank capacity, okay performance, and a pretty good price.

It doesn’t have any smart features, but it comes with an aromatherapy feature.

According to the manufacturer, it’s intended for places of up to 290 sq. ft. (27 m2), and consumes 157 mL of water per hour at maximum speed.

We tested its performance, power use, and compared it with some other humidifiers, and here are the results.

How We Tested the Levoit Dual 150?

1. We test every humidifier in the same 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) room. Before each test, we use a dehumidifier to lower the relative humidity in the room to around 40% RH, so every unit starts the test under identical conditions.

2. To track humidity levels, we use the Govee Hygrometer H5075 as our primary measuring device. We also set up a ThermoPro hygrometer as a secondary unit, which we use to confirm and cross-check the readings from the Govee.

3. We turn the Levoit Dual 150 to maximum speed and let it run for 60 minutes. During this time, we measure the total RH increase the unit achieves, as well as how long it takes to raise the humidity by +5% RH.

4. We measure how much water the Levoit Dual 150 uses in 60 minutes of running at max speed. Based on the measured water consumption (in mL/h) and the tank capacity, we calculate the real runtime on a full tank, not the manufacturer’s claim, but what we actually measured in our test.

5. Finally, we measure the power consumption of the Levoit Dual 150 using a power meter. From this, we calculate how much it would add to your electricity bill if you ran it 24/7 at max speed for a month, and its efficiency in mL of water per watt-hour (mL/Wh), a metric that shows how well the unit converts electricity into moisture output.

Using the Govee Hygrometer H5075, we measured the efficiency of the Levoit Dual 150 humidifier.

In addition, we measured how many mL of water this device uses during 60 minutes of operation at max speed, and how it generally compares to similar devices.

Efficiency Test

We placed the Levoit Dual 150 in a 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) room, and before that, we lowered the humidity to 40.9% using a dehumidifier.

Then we set up our measuring devices: the Govee Hygrometer H5075 and the ThermoPro humidity meter (which we used to verify the data from the Govee).

We set the Levoit Dual 150 to max speed and let it run for 60 minutes. During that time, this device raised the humidity in the room to 51.1%, which is an increase of +10.2% RH.

However, it took as long as 39 minutes to raise the humidity by 5%, while many competing devices were considerably faster on this test.

On the chart above, you can easily compare the results with some other devices. For example, the Dreo H311S raised the humidity by +12% RH in 60 minutes, while it took only 18 minutes to raise it by +5%.

All in all, I expected much more from Levoit, especially since many other Levoit devices I’ve tested achieved better results, and also because Levoit makes some of the best air purifiers on the market.

Runtime

In addition to this standard test, we also tested the water consumption per hour. The Levoit Dual 150 has a 3 L tank, and although the device can hold a bit more water, we’ll stick to the volume recommended by the manufacturer.

In our test, the Levoit Dual 150 used 157 mL of water during one hour of operation at max speed, which means this humidifier will run for 19 hours at max speed on a full tank.

I can’t say this is a perfect result, but when I compare it to the competition, it’s somewhere in the middle.

If you look at the chart, you can see that the Levoit Dual 150 uses much less water, but its tank lasts somewhat shorter than some devices that use more water.

For example, the Levoit Classic 300S uses about 290 mL of water per hour at max speed, and its tank will last 20.9 hours at that speed. Keep in mind that this humidifier has a 6 L tank.

When it comes to power use, humidifiers, especially ultrasonic cool mist models, are very low consumers of electricity.

The Levoit Dual 150 uses only 25W, and it’s not a big electricity consumer at all.

If you were to use this humidifier at max speed, 24 hours a day, for a period of one month, your electricity bill would increase by only $2.12, which isn’t a huge expense.

Warm mist humidifiers, on the other hand, create significant electricity costs. For example, the Vicks V750 would use about $18.90 worth of electricity under identical conditions, which is almost 10x the cost compared to what the Levoit would use.

If you look at the chart above, you can see that even though it uses very little electricity, the Levoit Dual 150 isn’t the best-optimized humidifier when it comes to power.

For example, it will use 6.5 mL per watt-hour, which is much less than, say, the Boneco W200, which uses 13.5 mL/Wh. A higher value is, of course, better.

All in all, the Levoit Dual 150 is generally a low electricity consumer, probably among the lowest of the many we’ve tested, but there is room for improvement, especially in water consumption per hour.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Honestly, almost every humidifier I’ve tested so far requires some kind of cleaning, and that almost always takes extra time.

However, how difficult the cleaning is depends not only on the device, but also on the water you use. If you use softer water, cleaning will be easier, and vice versa.

When it comes to the Levoit Dual 150, the cleaning isn’t the simplest I’ve come across, but it’s not complicated either.

Still, I would love it if I could just put all the plastic parts in the dishwasher and clean them much more easily.

As for maintenance, you need to occasionally wash all the plastic parts of the device, clean the rubber seals, and remove limescale if you use hard water.

Cleaning isn’t as simple as on some devices like the Boneco W200, but it’s on par with the Dreo H311S, Homvana, and similar humidifiers.

Features Overview

As for features, the Levoit Dual 150 is a feature-poor humidifier. All this device has is an aromatherapy feature, which is a standard part of many, if not all, ultrasonic humidifiers.

What I could perhaps highlight is the adjustable mist, which is essentially a 360-degree nozzle, and the adjustable dial gives users precise control over both the direction and the intensity of the mist.

Also, the Levoit Dual 150 will turn itself off if all the water in the tank runs out, and the refill indicator light will illuminate as a warning that there isn’t enough water.

Beyond that, this model doesn’t have much to brag about. Honestly, I miss a built-in humidity meter, as well as an auto mode and smart app features, but oh well, it is what it is; you should keep in mind that this is an older model, and perhaps one of the first Levoit humidifiers on the market.

Design & Build Quality

As for the design, I think the Levoit Dual 150 is quite decent. The plastic is no better than that of competing devices, and the build quality is on par with the competition.

The only thing I’m missing is something to make it easier to carry the device from one location to another.

The way it’s currently designed, it’s almost impossible to move the device from one place to another without spilling water.

Essentially, there’s no handle, no safety latches of any kind, and the only way to move the device to another location is to grab it from the bottom.

When it comes to controls, this model has a control knob on the front, which is used for complete control of the device, and that’s all the controls it has. There is also a lightbulb button used to switch the night light on/off.

I would also highlight the Top-Fill Design, which allows you to add water to the device at any time without any hassle. You simply open the lid on top and pour in the water, and that’s it. Just be careful not to exceed the MAX allowed water level.

What comes with the device?

When you buy the Levoit Dual 150, you get 1x device, 2x water filter sponges (one is pre-installed), 1x cleaning brush, and a user manual.

The water filter sponges are a really good thing; they trap dirt from the water and thus protect the device, especially since dirt that would reach the device’s ultrasonic membrane could damage it.

Keep in mind that this is not a filter that filters the water released into the air, and it cannot replace an air purifier, but also keep in mind that these filters need to be replaced periodically.
