Full Review
Finally, it is Jinpus GL-2103’s turn to be tested. This air purifier is very small and very affordable. It is fascinating that many authoritative sites like NBC News and Health.com have ranked this product as one of the best products.
Looking at the specs, I’m not quite sure Jinpus could take such a place at the very top. But let’s leave that decision to the tests, which you can see below in this air purifier review.
It is essential to mention that the Jinpus GL-2103 uses a 1x HEPA filter and an Ionizer as filtration methods. Besides, this model from Jinpus is identical to some other models that can be found on the market; one of them is Rigoglioso. It is not excluded that this is actually the same company that uses a different name. This review may refer to the Jinpus GL-2103 and all identical devices, which may be released under a different name.
According to the specifications presented by the manufacturer, this model is intended for rooms up to 80 sq. ft.
Maintenance costs are extremely low on this model. Whether this is enough to make this product a purchase recommendation, and whether there are any other virtues and flaws I will cover in this Jinpus Air Purifier review.
Design
The Jinpus GL-2103 is a small, portable, and very likable device in terms of design. Many won’t even think it’s an air purifier. It reminds me a bit of a Bluetooth speaker.
The air purifier is available in white color. I also like the blue light, which always lights up when the device is turned on.
Device Control
Jinpus is an absolutely minimal device. There are no advanced options or any unnecessary buttons. The device uses only one button for complete control.
There is almost no additional option except to change the working mode.
The first press of the button turns on the device at maximum speed, the second switches the mode to sleep mode, and the third press turns off the machine.
Airflow
Jinpus is circular in shape. The device is completely hollow on the underside. Still, when placed on a hard surface, this hollow part is entirely closed, and air can only pass through small openings on the side.
Jinpus draws air through openings at the bottom, which is then filtered and exits through openings at the top of the device.
Size and Dimensions
The air purifier weighs 1.14 lb. The dimensions of the device are 4.92 x 4.92 x 7.64 inches.
What’s in the box?
When you buy the device, you get 1x Jinpus GL-2103, 1x HEPA filter, 1x USB cable, and 1x user manual.
The packaging is standard, but the device does not come with everything you need. In my opinion, the big drawback is that the adapter does not come with the device, so you will be able to use it only if you connect it to a USB from a computer or laptop or if you buy an adapter. You can also connect the device to the adapter from a mobile phone or to the power bank.
Features Overview
The Jinpus GL-2103 has no advanced options, as I mentioned in the previous section. Many options that, in my opinion, are mandatory for a serious air purifier are missing from this model.
One of those options is definitely the filter reset indicator. I think the lack of this option is a big problem and makes it harder for users to keep track of the time to replace the filter.
Sleep Mode
Jinpus uses sleep mode, which is essentially the second speed on the device. However, Jinpus, when switched to sleep mode, does not reduce the fan speed but simply dims the blue light.
Besides, when you switch the device to sleep mode, it will be set to turn off in 8 hours from the moment you switch it to sleep mode.
Ionizer
Jinpus uses an ionizer as an additional filtration stage. These are small brushes that you can easily see if you peek a little under the cover on the top of the device.
I don’t like that the Jinpus GL-2103 is not CARB-certified, which means that there is no confirmation that it does not produce an illegal amount of ozone. Therefore, I cannot claim that this device is not harmful and does not produce an unlawful amount of ozone. What I also don’t like is that the Ionizer can’t be turned off; it’s always on.
It Can Be Powered With a Power Bank
Since Jinpus uses a feeble motor, only 2W, and uses DC 5V for input, you can connect the device to almost all mobile phone chargers, as well as practically all USB ports. You can also connect it to a car jack or even to a power bank, and Jinpus will work without any problems.
Room Coverage and CADR
Jinpus GL-2103 is an air purifier designed for rooms up to 80 sq. ft. Based on the tests I’ve done, I don’t think this device is effective in rooms larger than 50 sq. ft. So I don’t know for which room I could recommend it.
While I was using it, the most practical thing for me was to use it on a random table. However, I am not sure how effective Jinpus was.
One of the options is to use this model in a car, but it is not an effective option without a carbon filter. I would instead recommend Autowit Fresh 2 air purifier for the car. I also tested this model. It showed a much better performance than Jinpus. It has many more options, and it uses a carbon filter.
Filtration Technology
Jinpus GL-2103 uses only one filter, a HEPA filter. The filter is located on the bottom of the device and is very small. This filter is responsible for filtering small particles of dust, pollen, odors, and similar small particles.
The significant disadvantage is that the device does not have a pre-filter. An even more significant disadvantage is that it does not have a carbon filter.
In my opinion, this is an inferior device when it comes to filtration. In addition to the HEPA filter, Jinpus uses an Ionizer. The Ionizer is located on the top of the device, below the control button. Jinpus is not CARB certified, and therefore I cannot guarantee that the Ionizer is entirely safe to use.
Jinpus GL-2103 Replacement Filter
Always buy genuine filter for the best performance. Please change filter every 3-4 months to keep getting a high performance.
Check Filter Price On AmazonHow to replace the filter on the Jinpus GL-2103 air purifier?
The filter on Jinpus GL-2103 models is changed on average between 3-4 months. The device does not have a filter reset indicator, so you will have to take care of it yourself and hopefully replace the filter on time.
The process of replacing the filter is straightforward, and only a few steps need to be done.
Total time: 5 minutes.
Step 1
Unplug the device, then immediately turn it so that the underside is facing you.
Step 2
Next, unscrew the old HEPA filter clockwise, and remove it from the device.
Step 3
Now is a good time to vacuum inside the box where the filter is located or simply wipe off any dust with a cloth.
Step 4
Insert a new, unpacked filter into the device, and the whole process is complete.
Noise Test
Honestly, I was expecting a slightly less noisy motor from Jinpus. Primarily because the motor power is only 2W, and it uses only one motor speed.
Because it uses only one fan speed, I finished this test very quickly. When turned on, Jinpus produces a noise of about 45.3 dBA. Since it has only one speed, and the sleep mode does not further reduce the motor noise, this is a bit of a disappointment. But, all in all, it’s not a big problem because the sound is bearable.
I would like to note that I had tested the Jinpus GL-2103 on a desktop for a while. In that close vicinity, the sound of the device sometimes seemed to bother me.
Performance Tests
Jinpus GL-2103 air purifier is designed for rooms up to 80 sq. ft. However, I tested it in a slightly larger room. It is one of the rooms where I tested many devices of similar specifications.
Also, I used Jinpus on my desktop for a while to get some subjective opinions about the product. And to be honest, I wasn’t overly thrilled with what Jinpus offered me. Just look at the test results below, and everything will be clear to you.
120 sq. ft. Room Test
I tested the Jinpus GL-2103 in a room of 120 sq. ft. This room is slightly larger than the recommended dimensions. I tested the device for 60 minutes at the greatest speed, which is actually the only available speed. Jinpus improved air quality by about 52% during that time, lowering AQI from 90 to 43.
# | Starting Baseline | After 60min |
---|---|---|
PM 2.5 | 67.4 | 32.2 |
PM 10 | 94.3 | 45.1 |
Particles | 97762 | 46736 |
AQI | 90 | 43 |
This result is not enviable, and this is not a device I would recommend to filter air. A much better choice could be the TaoTronics TT-AP001 I recently tested, or perhaps the Levoit Core 300, which is a far better choice but also slightly more expensive.
Operating Costs
The Jinpus GL-2103 is powered by a 2W motor. Which is very little, even for this type of device. It is tough to make a device with excellent performance and such low motor power. The Levoit LV-H128 uses a 6W motor, which is not much more than the Jinpus. Still, the Levoit mentioned above showed several times better performance in tests and has more options. Besides, it is not a much more expensive device.
I believe that many can assume, based on this, that this device does not consume much electricity. Since the device has only one motor speed, it is unnecessary to calculate the power consumption by speed.
At Max Speed, the device consumes about 1.1W, which means that if you leave the machine running at this speed 24 hours a day, it will waste about $ 0.1 a month.
A higher cost, as with many air purifiers, is filter replacement. This device should be used on average for between 3 and 4 months. The price of a replacement filter is not high, so the overall cost for this device on an annual basis is not high.
Jinpus Warranty and Customer Service
Overall, I am not thrilled with the transparency and availability of information about the Jinpus brand. I found a Jinpus website where there is not much information about the company. Also, the address information is incorrect and incomplete.
I did not check the phone number and email because these are all sufficient indicators to conclude that customer support for Jinpus is not at an enviable level.
Also, I was unable to find warranty information anywhere. This information is not available on the site, on the Amazon listing, or in the user manual.
Because of these undefined issues, I suggest that if you decide to buy, you buy the product directly on Amazon and rely on their support instead of Jinpus support and the warranty they offer or don’t offer.
