RATING

I’m not sure how such an air purifier as the Jinpus GL-2013 may have that many positive reviews online. This air purifier DOESN’T WORK, and it won’t improve the air quality in your place.

Honestly, as soon as I unpacked the Jinpus GL-2103, I knew I couldn’t expect much better performance and a possible miracle from this device.

Jinpus GL-2103 is a very affordable device that consumes minimal electricity and has a coverage of 80 sq. ft. (7.4 m²). The Levoit Core Mini is rated for even smaller rooms but is a much better buying option than this Jinpus.

Jinpus did very poorly on all performance tests. Even on the noise test, it performed worse than expected. All this, plus the lack of advanced options, the lack of filter reset indicators, and many other shortcomings is why I do not recommend the Jinpus GL-2013 air purifier.

I recommend looking for other air purifiers in the same price range or checking my best affordable air purifiers guide. Trust me, the Jinpus won’t improve the air quality in your place at all. If you have questions about this air purifier, please use a comment section at the end of the article.

What do we really like?

  • What’s good about the Jinpus GL-2103 is the price, which is below many competitive air purifiers out there.

  • It uses low power, which is why you can easily attach it to a power bank.

  • The filter for the Jinpus is cheap and easy to replace.

What could be better?

  • The Jinpus GL-2103 has an ionizer built-in, but it’s not on the list of CARB-certified air purifiers.

  • Misleading marketing info on product pages.

  • Lack of features, only one fan speed, lack of power, truly bad performance, and low airflow.

  • Jinpus doesn’t provide consumers with a proper warranty and support.

Finally, it’s time to test the Jinpus GL-2103. This air purifier is very compact and highly affordable.

Interestingly, several reputable websites like NBC News and Health.com have ranked this product among the best.

Looking at the specs, I’m not entirely convinced the Jinpus GL-2103 deserves a spot at the very top. But let’s leave that judgment to the tests, which you can see if you scroll down to the next section.

It’s important to note that the Jinpus GL-2103 uses a single HEPA filter and an ionizer as its filtration methods. Additionally, this model is identical to other similar models on the market; one example is the Rigoglioso. It’s possible that this is the same company using a different brand name. This review may refer to the Jinpus GL-2103 and similar models that could be released under different names.

According to the manufacturer, this model is designed for rooms up to 80 sq. ft. (7.4 m²).

Maintenance costs for this model are extremely low. Whether this is enough to make the Jinpus GL-2103 a recommended buy, you’ll find out in this review!

How We Tested the Jinpus GL-2103?

1. For the filter efficiency testing, we used the Temtop LKC-1000S laser particle meter, which measures PM2.5 (µg/m3), PM10 (µg/m3), Particles (per/L), and HCHO (mg/m3) in the air, and also calculates the AQI.

2. We placed the Jinpus GL-2103 in a 120 sq. ft. (11 m²) room. Then, we recorded the initial air quality values using the Temtop laser particle meter and let the Jinpus GL-2103 run at maximum speed.

3. After 60 minutes, we measured the new values using the Temtop laser particle meter and saved the data.

4. Next, using a special noise measurement tool, we tested the air purifier’s noise level at all speeds. We measured the noise level on the dBA scale.

5. Finally, we measured the power usage at all speeds using an energy meter, after which we calculated how much it would cost to use the device at a particular fan speed for one month. For reference, we used an energy price of $0.12 per kWh.

Performance – Particle Removal Tests

The Jinpus GL-2103 air purifier is designed for rooms up to 80 sq. ft. (7.4 m²).

However, despite being somewhat skeptical about Jinpus’s room coverage recommendation, we tested it in a slightly larger room—one where we’ve tested many devices with similar specifications.

Additionally, since the Jinpus is a desktop air purifier, I used it on my office desk for a while. From the first day, it became clear that this small device wasn’t capable of making any noticeable improvement in air quality around my desk.

Particle Removal Test Room - Comparison

Comparison between the Jinpus GL-2103 and its competitors in particle removal tests in a 120 sq. ft. (11 m²) room.

Just take a look at the chart to see how it compares to similar air purifiers; you’ll get a clear picture.

In a room of 120 sq. ft. (11 m²), which is slightly larger than the recommended dimensions, the Jinpus GL-2103 improved air quality by just 52%, reducing PM2.5 particulate matter from 67.4 to 32.2 µg/m³.

This is the worst result recorded by an air purifier in a 120 sq. ft. (11 m²) room test, which is why I definitely wouldn’t recommend the Jinpus air purifier.

# Starting Baseline After 60 min
PM 2.5 67.4 µg/m³ 32.2 µg/m³
PM 10 94.3 µg/m³ 45.1 µg/m³
Particles 97762 per/L 46736 per/L
AQI 90 43

A much better choice would be the Taotronics TT-AP001, which improved air quality in the same test by 88%, or the Blueair Mini Max, which achieved a 92% improvement.

Noise Levels Test

Honestly, I was expecting a slightly quieter motor from the Jinpus. Primarily because the motor power is only 2W, and it operates with only one fan speed.

Since it has only one fan speed, I completed this test fairly quickly. When turned on, the Jinpus produces a noise level of 45.3 dBA. With no additional speed settings and no sleep mode to further reduce the noise, this was a bit disappointing.

Noise Levels Test - Comparison

This chart compares the noise levels at the minimum and maximum speeds of the Jinpus GL-2103 air purifier with those of its competitors.

Overall, it’s not a major issue, as the sound is still bearable.

Fan Speed Jinpus GL-2103 (dBA)
Speed 1 (Low)45.3 dBA

While using the Jinpus GL-2103 on my office desk, I noticed that, aside from its low performance, the motor quality was another drawback. At times, the motor became quite irritating, and the noise it produced wasn’t as smooth as that of some other similar air purifiers.

8.8

Operating Costs – Power Usage Test & Filter Price

The Jinpus GL-2103 is powered by a 2W motor, which is very low, even for this type of device.

It’s challenging to achieve excellent performance with such low motor power. The Levoit LV-H128, for instance, uses a 6W motor, which isn’t much more than the Jinpus, yet it demonstrated significantly better performance in tests and offers more features. Additionally, it’s not a much more expensive device.

Given the low motor power, it’s reasonable to assume that this device doesn’t consume much electricity. Since it only has one motor speed, there’s no need to calculate power consumption by speed setting.

Monthly Power Cost – Comparison

Comparison of the monthly power cost at maximum speed between the Jinpus GL-2103 and some of its competitors.

At its maximum speed, the device consumes about 1.1W, meaning that if you run it 24 hours a day, it will cost approximately $0.1 per month.

As with many air purifiers, filter replacement is a more significant cost. On the Jinpus, the filter needs to be replaced every 3-4 months on average.

Fan Speed Jinpus GL-2103 (W + $/month)
Standby0W ($0)
Speed 1 (Low)0W ($0.1)

The replacement filter price is relatively low, so overall, the annual maintenance cost of this air purifier is affordable.

Filtration Technology

Jinpus GL-2103 uses only one filter, a HEPA filter. The filter is located on the bottom of the device and is very small. This filter is responsible for filtering small particles of dust, pollen, odors, and similar small particles.

The significant disadvantage is that the device does not have a pre-filter. An even more significant disadvantage is that it does not have a carbon filter.

In my opinion, this is an inferior device when it comes to filtration. In addition to the HEPA filter, Jinpus uses an Ionizer. The Ionizer is located on the top of the device, below the control button. Jinpus is not CARB certified, and therefore I cannot guarantee that the Ionizer is entirely safe to use.

How to replace the filter on the Jinpus GL-2103 air purifier?

The filter on Jinpus GL-2103 models is changed on average between 3-4 months. The device does not have a filter reset indicator, so you will have to take care of it yourself and hopefully replace the filter on time.

The process of replacing the filter is straightforward, and only a few steps need to be done.

Total time: 5 minutes.

Step 1

Unplug the device, then immediately turn it so that the underside is facing you.

Design

The Jinpus GL-2103 is a small, portable, and very likable device in terms of design. Many won’t even think it’s an air purifier. It reminds me a bit of a Bluetooth speaker.

The air purifier is available in white color. I also like the blue light, which always lights up when the device is turned on.

Device Control

Jinpus is an absolutely minimal device. There are no advanced options or any unnecessary buttons. The device uses only one button for complete control.

There is almost no additional option except to change the working mode.

The first press of the button turns on the device at maximum speed, the second switches the mode to sleep mode, and the third press turns off the machine.

Airflow

Jinpus is circular in shape. The device is completely hollow on the underside. Still, when placed on a hard surface, this hollow part is entirely closed, and air can only pass through small openings on the side.

Jinpus draws air through openings at the bottom, which is then filtered and exits through openings at the top of the device.

Size and Dimensions

The air purifier weighs 1.14 lb. The dimensions of the device are 4.92 x 4.92 x 7.64 inches.

What’s in the box?

When you buy the device, you get 1x Jinpus GL-2103, 1x HEPA filter, 1x USB cable, and 1x user manual.

The packaging is standard, but the device does not come with everything you need. In my opinion, the big drawback is that the adapter does not come with the device, so you will be able to use it only if you connect it to a USB from a computer or laptop or if you buy an adapter. You can also connect the device to the adapter from a mobile phone or to the power bank.

Features Overview

The Jinpus GL-2103 has no advanced options, as I mentioned in the previous section. Many options that, in my opinion, are mandatory for a serious air purifier are missing from this model.

View from the top. Photo: Airpurifierfirst.com / Milan Antonic

One of those options is definitely the filter reset indicator. I think the lack of this option is a big problem and makes it harder for users to keep track of the time to replace the filter.

Sleep Mode

Jinpus uses sleep mode, which is essentially the second speed on the device. However, Jinpus, when switched to sleep mode, does not reduce the fan speed but simply dims the blue light.

Besides, when you switch the device to sleep mode, it will be set to turn off in 8 hours from the moment you switch it to sleep mode.

Ionizer

Jinpus uses an ionizer as an additional filtration stage. These are small brushes that you can easily see if you peek a little under the cover on the top of the device.

I don’t like that the Jinpus GL-2103 is not CARB-certified, which means that there is no confirmation that it does not produce an illegal amount of ozone. Therefore, I cannot claim that this device is not harmful and does not produce an unlawful amount of ozone. What I also don’t like is that the Ionizer can’t be turned off; it’s always on.

Jinpus advises that these little brushes be cleaned sometimes, especially if you notice that the device produces an unusual sound.

It Can Be Powered With a Power Bank

Since Jinpus uses a feeble motor, only 2W, and uses DC 5V for input, you can connect the device to almost all mobile phone chargers, as well as practically all USB ports. You can also connect it to a car jack or even to a power bank, and Jinpus will work without any problems.

Room Coverage and CADR

Jinpus GL-2103 is an air purifier designed for rooms up to 80 sq. ft. Based on the tests I’ve done, I don’t think this device is effective in rooms larger than 50 sq. ft. So I don’t know for which room I could recommend it.

While I was using it, the most practical thing for me was to use it on a random table. However, I am not sure how effective Jinpus was.

One of the options is to use this model in a car, but it is not an effective option without a carbon filter. I would instead recommend Autowit Fresh 2 air purifier for the car. I also tested this model. It showed a much better performance than Jinpus. It has many more options, and it uses a carbon filter.

Jinpus Warranty and Customer Service

Overall, I am not thrilled with the transparency and availability of information about the Jinpus brand. I found a Jinpus website where there is not much information about the company. Also, the address information is incorrect and incomplete.

I did not check the phone number and email because these are all sufficient indicators to conclude that customer support for Jinpus is not at an enviable level.

Also, I was unable to find warranty information anywhere. This information is not available on the site, on the Amazon listing, or in the user manual.

Because of these undefined issues, I suggest that if you decide to buy, you buy the product directly on Amazon and rely on their support instead of Jinpus support and the warranty they offer or don’t offer.
