Xiaomi 4 Lite Vs Levoit Core 400S – Hands-on Comparison

I compared two smart air purifiers: the Xiaomi 4 Lite and the Levoit Core 400S, to determine which one is the better buying option.

Xiaomi is a serious player in the air purifier market and often competes directly with many popular air purifiers.

In this article, I will compare the Xiaomi 4 Lite and the Levoit Core 400S air purifiers.

When we look at the detailed specifications, we can see that these are two very similar air purifiers. However, the Levoit Core 400S uses a slightly better-optimized motor with a higher CADR.

The Levoit Core 400S has a CADR of 260 CFM (442 m³/h), while the Xiaomi 4 Lite has a CADR of 212 CFM (360 m³/h).

Both devices are equipped with smart features, including an air quality sensor and auto mode, and both work with smart apps.

Below, you will find the results of our performance tests, noise levels, power usage, as well as a detailed analysis of these two air purifiers.

Our Verdict

This is truly a tight battle, and choosing the better device won’t be an easy task.

When we look at the specifications of these two devices, it’s easy to conclude that they are very similar in size, use similar filtration technology, have smart features, and both achieved fantastic results in all our tests.

However, I think that the Levoit Core 400S is slightly better and is my choice in this comparison.

It performed better in the performance tests, uses a much more advanced smart app, is more cost-effective to maintain, its filters are usually in stock (which is not always the case with Xiaomi, especially in the US market), and it has a slightly higher CADR.

If you have any questions about these two air purifiers, feel free to leave a comment in the comment section below the article.

Performance Test – Comparison

We tested these two air purifiers in two rooms of identical dimensions. This was an ideal situation to do so because they are designed to cover rooms of similar sizes.

The Xiaomi 4 Lite covers rooms of up to 330 sq. ft. (31 m²), while the Levoit Core 400S covers rooms of up to 403 sq. ft. (37 m²).

In the first test, performed in a room of 320 sq. ft. (30 m²), both devices delivered fantastic results, but the Levoit Core 400S performed slightly better. It improved the air quality by about 96%, whereas the Xiaomi 4 Lite improved air quality in the same room by about 95%.

Particle Removal Tests - Comparison

We placed the Xiaomi 4 Lite Vs Levoit Core 400S in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.

In the second test, performed in a room of 560 sq. ft. (52 m²), both air purifiers again achieved excellent results. The Levoit Core 400S improved air quality by about 91%, while the Xiaomi 4 Lite improved it by about 90%.

The devices ran for 60 minutes at maximum speed during both tests. We measured their performance using a Temtop laser particle meter.

All in all, the conclusion is that the Levoit Core 400S is a slightly better performer than the Xiaomi.

Smoke Box Test – Comparison

Although the Levoit Core 400S has a higher CADR and larger room coverage, the Xiaomi 4 Lite managed to remove all the smoke from the glass box one second faster.

The Xiaomi 4 Lite needed 14 seconds to clear the smoke, while the Levoit Core 400S needed 15 seconds.

Both air purifiers use pellet-based carbon filters and delivered outstanding results in this test, with the Xiaomi performing slightly better.

Noise Level Test – Comparison

When discussing noise levels, the first thing worth mentioning is that the Xiaomi 4 Lite has fifteen fan speeds. However, you must connect it to the Mi Home smart app to switch between these fan speeds.

On the other hand, the Levoit Core 400S has five fan speeds.

To be honest, it’s really hard to beat the Xiaomi 4 Lite in noise level tests, primarily due to its fifteen fan speeds.

Noise Level Comparison

Comparing the Xiaomi 4 Lite Vs Levoit Core 400S noise levels at minimum and maximum speeds.

At the lowest speed, the Xiaomi 4 Lite produces a sound level of 40.1 dBA, while the Levoit Core 400S produces 42.1 dBA.

However, at maximum speed, the situation changes. The Xiaomi 4 Lite produces 61.6 dBA, while the Levoit Core 400S produces 59.9 dBA.

Xiaomi has done an excellent job optimizing the 4 Lite’s motor, making it one of the quietest air purifiers we’ve tested. I would say it’s better optimized for noise than the Levoit Core 400S.

Operating Costs – Comparison

These are two well-optimized air purifiers with high CADR ratings and low-power motors. The Xiaomi 4 Lite uses a motor rated at just 33W, while the Levoit Core 400S uses a 38W motor.

This means that if you were to run these air purifiers at their maximum speeds, 24 hours a day, for an entire month, your electricity bill would increase by $3.25 in the case of the Xiaomi 4 Lite and by $3.06 in the case of the Levoit Core 400S.

Power Usage Comparison

Comparing the Xiaomi 4 Lite Vs Levoit Core 400S power use at minimum and maximum speeds.

In addition, there is the cost of replacement filters, which need to be replaced approximately every 12 months for both devices.

However, I found the replacement filters for the Levoit Core 400S to be more affordable than those for the Xiaomi 4 Lite.

The biggest issue with the Xiaomi 4 Lite is the availability of replacement filters, especially in the US. This significantly affects its ranking and places the Levoit Core 400S at the top in this comparison.
