Philips Series 800 Vs Xiaomi Mi 3H – Hands-on Comparison

In this article, you will find out whether the Philips Series 800 can outperform the popular Xiaomi Mi 3H.

Philips and Xiaomi are globally recognized brands that offer a wide variety of products. In this article, I will compare two very different air purifiers: the Philips Series 800 and the Xiaomi Mi 3H.

The Philips Series 800 is a small, cylindrical air purifier with a few advanced options, intended for rooms up to 176 sq. ft. (16 m²). In contrast, the Xiaomi Mi 3H is a much larger air purifier with many advanced options, which covers rooms up to 484 sq. ft. (45 m²).

Both devices feature three-stage filtration technology, but with one crucial difference: only the Xiaomi uses a True HEPA filter. In my opinion, this is why the Xiaomi performed better in the performance tests.

Our Verdict

Frankly, I knew which air purifier would win from the very beginning of this comparison. The reason is that I have used both in my place for a long time, and even without precise tests, I could easily determine which is the better choice.

However, based on the tests and detailed analysis of these two air purifiers, I picked the Xiaomi Mi 3H as the better buying option compared to the Philips Series 800. There are several reasons for this decision, which include better performance, a larger and longer-lasting filter, much larger room coverage (higher CADR), and more smart options.

All in all, these are two high-quality air purifiers, and I’m sure either would satisfy your needs.

Performance Test – Comparison

Let’s compare their performance and efficiency in airborne particle removal. But, before we move on to the results, it’s important to note that the Xiaomi covers rooms nearly three times larger than the Philips, so we tested them in two different rooms as well as in one room of the same size.

Particle Removal Tests - Comparison

We placed the Philips Series 800 and Xiaomi 3H in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.

In the first test, conducted in a 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) room, both performed admirably. The Xiaomi Mi 3H improved the air quality by 95%, while the Philips Series 800 improved it by 91%. The Xiaomi managed to reduce the PM2.5 particulate matter from 96.5 to 5.1 µg/m³, while the Philips reduced it from 101.9 to 8.4 µg/m³.

In addition to this test, we also tested them in two different-sized rooms. The Xiaomi Mi 3H improved the air quality by about 90% in a 560 sq. ft. (52 m²) room, while the Philips Series 800 improved the air quality by about 93% in a 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) room.

It’s clear that the Xiaomi Mi 3H produced better results in all the tests, making it a more efficient and better-performing device. However, the Philips Series 800 would be a great option for small rooms such as bedrooms, kids’ rooms, and similar spaces.

Smoke Box Test – Comparison

You may think that a more realistic comparison would be between the Philips Series 800 and the Xiaomi 4 Compact (I have already done it), but since many people requested this one, I had to do it.

The fact that the Xiaomi Mi 3H is a much larger air purifier with a higher CADR and larger filters is why it performed much better in the smoke test.

The Xiaomi needed only 15 seconds to remove all the smoke from the box, which is among the best results of all the air purifiers we tested.

On the other hand, the Philips Series 800 needed 33 seconds, which is much slower but still better than average (based on all air purifiers we tested).

All in all, the Xiaomi Mi 3H was much better in the smoke removal test.
