MOOKA B-D02L Vs Levoit Core 200S – Hands-on Comparison

In this comparison, we analyzed the performance, noise levels, power consumption, and specifications of the MOOKA B-D02L and Levoit Core 200S.

MOOKA is a Chinese brand that has quickly gained significant popularity. The MOOKA B-D02L is a compact air purifier often compared to some of the best-selling Levoit models. In this review, I will compare it to the Levoit Core 200S.

An interesting characteristic of these two models is their similar CADR ratings. The MOOKA B-D02L has a CADR of 135 CFM (230 m³/h), making it ideal for rooms up to 215 sq. ft. (20 m²). On the other hand, the Levoit Core 200S has a slightly lower CADR of 118 CFM (200.6 m³/h), suitable for rooms up to 183 sq. ft. (17 m²).

In terms of advanced features, Levoit takes the lead, primarily due to its ability to connect to a smart app.

However, neither device includes features like auto mode, an air quality sensor, or other functionalities that would make it stand out.

Although initially an interesting comparison, it’s evident that the MOOKA B-D02L doesn’t offer enough to make it a better buying option than the Levoit Core 200S.

Levoit stands out with superior performance, a better-optimized motor for noise, more advanced features, and more affordable, longer-lasting replacement filters.

Performance Test – Comparison

The fact that these two air purifiers are intended for rooms of nearly identical dimensions made performance testing straightforward.

We tested both air purifiers in two different rooms, running them at maximum speed for 60 minutes. We used the Temtop laser particle meter to measure how much each device improved air quality.

In the first test, performed in a room of 120 sq. ft. (11 m²), the MOOKA B-D02L reduced PM2.5 particulate matter from 100 to 12.1 µg/m³, achieving an air quality improvement of about 87%. The Levoit Core 200S performed even better, improving air quality by approximately 93%.

Particle Removal Tests - Comparison

We placed the MOOKA B-D02L Vs Levoit Core 200S in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.

In the second test, performed in a slightly larger room measuring 194 sq. ft. (18 m²), both devices showed somewhat weaker results. The MOOKA B-D02L improved air quality by 81%, while the Levoit Core 200S again outperformed it, achieving an improvement of about 91%.

Overall, based on these test results, it is clear that the Levoit Core 200S delivers significantly superior performance compared to the MOOKA B-D02L.

Noise Level Test – Comparison

Testing noise levels at all speeds was simplified by the fact that both devices have an identical number of fan speeds.

Each air purifier offers four fan speeds. At the lowest speed, the MOOKA B-D02L produces a noise level of 40.7 dBA, while the Levoit Core 200S produces slightly higher sound of 42.1 dBA.

Noise Levels - Comparison

Comparison of noise levels at all fan speeds between the MOOKA B-D02L Vs Levoit Core 200S air purifiers.

However, at all other speeds, the Levoit Core 200S is better optimized and much quieter.

At maximum speed, the Levoit produces a noise level of 53.9 dBA, significantly quieter than the MOOKA, which produces 61.1 dBA.

Fan Speed MOOKA B-D02L (dBA)Levoit Core 200S (dBA)
Sleep Mode40.7 dBA42.1 dBA
Speed 1 (Low)45.9 dBA44.9 dBA
Speed 2 (Medium)52.2 dBA48.5 dBA
Speed 3 (High)61.1 dBA53.9 dBA

Overall, while the MOOKA B-D02L is slightly quieter at the lowest speed, it’s generally louder than the Levoit Core 200S.

I would still recommend both devices for use in bedrooms or similar spaces.

Operating Costs – Comparison

These two air purifiers are highly energy-efficient. The MOOKA B-D02L features a motor with a power consumption of just 16W, while the Levoit Core 200S uses a slightly more powerful 37W motor.

If both devices were operated at maximum speed 24 hours a day for an entire month, the MOOKA would increase your electricity bill by approximately $1.32, whereas the Levoit would cost about $2.16.

Monthly Power Consumption Cost - Comparison

Comparison of monthly power consumption costs for the MOOKA B-D02L Vs Levoit Core 200S air purifiers at all fan speeds.

At all other speeds, the MOOKA also consumes less power. For detailed consumption at each speed, refer to the chart above.

However, electricity costs aren’t the only expense to consider. Both devices require regular filter replacements. The Levoit filter typically needs replacement twice a year, whereas the MOOKA filter may need to be replaced up to four times yearly.

Fan Speed MOOKA B-D02L (W + $/month)Levoit Core 200S (W + $/month)
Standby1.2W ($0.11)0.6W ($0.05)
Sleep Mode2.8W ($0.25)12.7W ($1.11)
Speed 1 (Low)5.1W ($0.45)16.8W ($1.47)
Speed 2 (Medium)8W ($0.7)19.5W ($1.71)
Speed 3 (High)15W ($1.32)24.6W ($2.16)

While the MOOKA consumes slightly less power, its higher frequency of filter replacements results in higher overall maintenance costs, making it more expensive to maintain than the Levoit Core 200S.
