Levoit Vital 100 Vs Levoit LV-PUR131 – Family Issues Comparison

Once again, two members of the Levoit family will try to discomfit each other. This comparison will be all about confronting two medium-sized air purifiers, Levoit Vital 100 and Levoit LV-PUR131. 

Being parts of the same brand, with almost the same room coverage and a three-stage filtration, this comparison promises an intriguing battle. Both Levoit air purifiers will perfectly fit into your bedroom, smaller living room, or any other room you wish to purify. 

Levoit Vital 100 can cover up to 300 sq. ft. rooms, while Levoit LV-PUR131 adds a bit more to the space by covering up to 322 sq. ft. 

Although not significantly, Levoit LV-PUR131 is a larger air purifier than Levoit Vital 100, but they are both made of top-quality plastics. 

Recognizable by their rectangular look, you can find both air purifiers in white color, while Vital 100 gives you an extra choice of grey color. I have to admit, I liked Levoit Vital 100 a bit more because it has that modern look that fits my needs, but you don’t have to worry if either one will adapt to your interior design style.

Levoit Vital 100 Vs Levoit LV-PUR131 Specifications

Features

By belonging to the same manufacturer, it comes as obvious that both air purifiers have in common most of Levoit’s standard features, such as Filter Reset Indicator, Display Off, or Timer. 

The Levoit LV-PUR131 have some additional features such as Air Quality Sensor. All in all, these two air purifiers have what it takes to fulfill your needs but, also, to give you some extra useful options, that come as a pure refreshment. 

Air Quality Sensor and Indicator

As I mentioned before, Levoit LV-PUR131 comes with a built-in Air Quality Sensor, while Levoit Vital 100 comes without. If you’re into air purifiers, you are already familiar with this feature that measures the real-time air quality in your living or working space. 

I expected this Sensor to be more precise, as in some other Levoit air purifiers I had tested before, but that is not the case. Some of the newer versions have a much more sensible and reliable Air Quality Sensor. In this particular case, the Sensor works jointly along with the Auto Mode, and the Air Quality Indicator. 

You can find the Air Quality Indicator in the middle of the Control Panel, and based on the current air quality, this Indicator will light up in different colors. However, only if you switch your air purifier to an Auto Mode, the Indicator will be of use. 

Auto Mode

Once again, only Levoit LV-PUR131 has this option as opposed to Levoit Vital 100. So, if you switch your appliance to an Auto Mode, it will automatically get all the reliable air quality data from the Air Quality Sensor. The collected data is being processed immediately, and the device’s speed will adjust accordingly. 

Sleep Mode

Having a Sleep Mode option is forever a good option. Especially if you plan to set the air purifier into your bedroom. With this in mind, Levoit LV-PUR131 will be a reliable ally to your good night’s sleep. Once you turn on the Sleep Mode, the fan will switch to the lowest speed level and dim all the indicators to create a total zen ambiance. 

Levoit Vital 100 doesn’t have a regular Sleep Mode feature. Instead, if you would switch the fan into the first speed and dim all of the indicators, you would end up with the same result as if it was in the regular Sleep Mode. 

Airflow

Having an almost identical rectangular shape might mislead the end user into thinking that the airflow is the same. However, there are some differences that can change the game. 

As you can see, Levoit Vital 100 has a lid on the front side with suction holes distributed sidelong and on the bottom part. Once the air gets into the air purifier, it gets filtered and dispersed into the room through the upper sidebars. 

Levoit LV-PUR131 has a different situation, whereas the suction holes are located sidelong and on the rear part of the appliance. After the suction, the air gets filtered and released into the room via upside holes. 

Warranty

The one thing that never changes, no matter which Levoit air purifier you decide on buying, is the warranty given by the producer. The warranty coverage will limit you to a 2-year of protection. Afterwhich you and your air purifier are on your own. Still, there’s a catch. In order to have full coverage, you will have to register your purchase on the Levoit website, almost immediately and wait for approval.

Filtration Technology

Almost identical, the filtration technology for both Levoit Vital 100 and Levoit LV-PUR131 consists of a pre-filter, True HEPA filter, and an Activated Carbon Filter. 

Still, there are some differences, mainly regarding the array of filters. 

As in most cases, the first place belongs to the pre-filter. The pre-filter serves to protect the next filter in line, from all those large particles that can cause damage and that are severe pollutants in the room air. 

The next filter position in Levoit Vital 100 is the activated carbon filter, which is the third in line at Levoit LV-PUR131. What I liked the most is the fact that both air purifiers use a pellet-based carbon filter. What I can confirm, with certainty, this is a game-changer in terms of overall performance because a pellet-based carbon filter is definitely a lot more efficient and effective than the fibrous one, which can be found in many other air purifiers. 

Regarding the True HEPA filter, both air purifiers use all the advantages of this filter which, in fact, is the fundamental filtration stage and gets all the credits for the high level of performance for both devices. The slight difference is that the True HEPA filter is in third place in Levoit Vital 100 but in second place in Levoit LV-PUR131 air purifier. 

From what I could test, both appliances are equipped with high-quality filters, against which I have no reproach whatsoever.  

How To Replace Filter On Both These Devices?

Since not one of these air purifiers has a washable pre-filter, I can only recommend you clean these filters manually every once in a while. It will be worth it, especially considering that, by doing so, you prolong the durability of other filters. You can use a vacuum cleaner or a simple cloth, and the job will be done in no time. 

Every six to eight months, filters in both Levoit Vital 100 and Levoit LV-PUR131 need to be replaced. But, you won’t have to worry about it since both devices have a Filter Reset Indicator. It will notify you once it’s time for a replacement. The fact that this indicator lights up in red color, can only mean that it is time to put new filters in your device.

Noise

To begin with, both Levoit Vital 100 and Levoit LV-PUR131 have initial three fan speeds, with the addition of Sleep Mode in the second air purifier that I mentioned before. 

Even though Levoit Vital 100 doesn’t have the Sleep Mode, it only releases a bit noisier sound while on first speed, as opposed to Levoit LV-PUR131 while in the Sleep Mode. 

Based on my impressions the sound of the motor running is quite pleasant, without crackles or any other discomforting sounds. What I did notice is that, while running at maximum speed, both air purifiers have been louder than tolerable, which can be a real menace if you spend a lot of time in the same room where you hold your air purifier. 

However, you have to keep in mind that, no matter the sound, every air purifier, including these, has the best airflow while running at max speed. 

Another important thing I would like you to know is that, even though Levoit LV-PUR131 seems like a lot quieter appliance in general, Levoit Vital 100 does have that comfy air purifier sound we all strive to. After all, disregarding the lifestyle we have, we all have to spend some time in the coziness of our homes. So, why not make the best out of it? 

Performance

Keeping in mind both Levoit Vital 100 and LV-PUR131 are designed to cover up approximately equal room sizes, I decided to run the test in the exact sq. ft. coverage. 

As expected, both turned out to be at the top of their assignment by neutralizing the various odors and performing everyday cleaning. 

Considering I used both devices for quite some time, I can confidently claim that you will be more than pleased with whichever air purifier you decide to choose. It took me no more than thirty minutes to feel the benefits of cleaner air. 

320 sq. ft. Room Test

By putting both air purifiers to the test in the same room size, I wanted to make the performance comparison as real as it can be. In separately conducted tests I had both air purifiers tried out in the same conditions. This means I left them running at top speed for an hour, to see how well they do their job. As it turned out, I got identical results with the 92% of air improvement. This is amazing, considering how rare it is to get the same results from two separate appliances. 

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not about having the same percentage, but about how good both Levoit Vital 100 and LV-PUR131 are at what they are designed for. 

Operating Costs

The difference in wattage is not that big for Levoit Vital 100 and LV-PUR131. While the first one has a 55W motor running, the other has a 40W motor at its disposal. 

Since both air purifiers are provided with middle-range power motors, the electricity consumption is well adapted to each one’s performance. 

If we consider the level of electricity consumption, and the price of filter replacement, which comes twice a year, we can without hold declare the Levoit LV-PUR131 as the more affordable one, annually.
