This will be an interesting comparison, as I will compare two top-notch air purifiers: the Levoit LV-H134 and the Coway AP-1512HH.
The Levoit is a giant air purifier that uses three-stage filtration technology, has plenty of options, and performed very well in all tests. The Coway, on the other hand, is a medium-sized air purifier that uses four-stage filtration technology and has plenty of options as well.
The Levoit LV-H134 covers rooms up to 492 sq. ft. (45.7 m²), which is significantly larger than the 361 sq. ft. (33 m²) room coverage of the Coway AP-1512HH.
The build quality of these two air purifiers is pretty good, as it should be for this type of device. The Coway comes in white or black, while the Levoit comes only in white. In my opinion, even though it’s too big, the Levoit looks somehow prettier and much more modern.
What else is important is that both air purifiers performed amazingly in performance tests and showed excellent performance in smoke box tests.
The question is: can size be the deciding factor, and will it be enough for the Levoit to beat the Coway? You will find out the answer to this question in the article. I will compare their performance, noise levels, operating costs, and specifications, and in the end, I will declare a winner
Our Verdict
To summarize, this wasn’t an easy battle. Even though the Levoit LV-H134 is a much larger air purifier with a larger airflow, I picked the Coway AP-1512HH as the winner and the better buying option.
The Coway has outstanding performance; it is quieter, allows for the adjustment of the air quality sensor’s sensitivity, is slightly cheaper to maintain annually, and has longer-lasting filters. Besides, it’s one of the best air purifiers I have tested so far!
Don’t get me wrong, the Levoit LV-H134 is also an incredibly good air purifier, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an air purifier for rooms of 500 sq. ft. (46.5 m²) or larger.

Particle Removal Test – Comparison
When speaking of performance comparison, the first thing I want to mention is that the Levoit LV-H134 covers rooms of up to 492 sq. ft. (45.7 m²), while the Coway AP-1512HH covers rooms of up to 361 sq. ft. (33 m²).
In accordance with their recommended dimensions, we tested them in two different rooms.
Particle Removal Tests - Comparison
We placed the Levoit LV-H134 and Coway AP-1512HH in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.
Firstly, we tested the Coway AP-1512HH in a 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) room. It worked for 60 minutes at maximum speed and managed to reduce the PM2.5 particulate matter from 113.8 to 4.7 µg/m³, an air quality improvement of about 96%.
On the other hand, we tested the Levoit LV-H134 in a much larger room, which is 560 sq. ft. (52 m²). It improved the air quality by about 94% in 60 minutes while working at maximum speed the entire time.
They both definitely had outstanding results and demonstrated real air-cleaning capabilities. It’s not surprising because these two are some of the best-rated air purifiers here at Air Purifier First.
I also want to mention that both are good at neutralizing light odors, such as cooking odors. I will declare this performance test a draw!
Smoke Box Test – Comparison
If you follow and read reviews on Air Purifier First, you probably know that I’ve said a few times that any air purifier that clears smoke in this test in under 20 seconds is a good one.
The thing is that both these devices cleared all the smoke in under that time.
However, the Levoit LV-H134 was slightly superior, needing only 12 seconds to remove all the smoke. On the other hand, the Coway AP-1512HH needed 18 seconds.
Yes, the Levoit achieved a better result, but I must highlight that both results were amazing and among the best of the tested air purifiers!
Noise Level Test – Comparison
The Levoit LV-H134 is a large air purifier with a high CADR, which means it is expected to be somewhat louder during operation, at least at maximum speeds.
On the other hand, the Coway AP-1512HH is a much smaller device, has a smaller CADR, and is generally quieter during operation.

A significant difference between these two devices regarding noise is that the Levoit has four fan speeds while the Coway has three. The Levoit has a sleep mode, but the Coway, at its lowest speed, is almost as loud as the Levoit in sleep mode. The Coway AP-1512HH produces a sound level of 41.4 dBA at its first (lowest) speed, while the Levoit LV-H134 produces a sound level of 41.8 dBA in sleep mode.
At maximum speeds, the difference in the sound levels produced by these devices is much more drastic. The Levoit produces a sound level of 70.3 dBA, while the Coway produces a sound level of 63.5 dBA.

Overall, I think we can easily conclude that the Coway AP-1512HH is much quieter than the Levoit LV-H134.
Operating Costs – Comparison
When you look at these two devices and compare their size and CADR, you might conclude that the Levoit is a larger power consumer. However, it’s actually the Coway.
The Coway AP-1512HH uses a 77W motor, while the Levoit LV-H134 uses a 45W motor.

Considering that the Coway filter is much cheaper, we might overlook the high cost of electricity consumption. In that case, I would say that the Coway AP-1512HH is somewhat more cost-effective to maintain on an annual basis.
Hi, I want to buy an air purifier to help with wildfire smoke. We do not have any allergies or lung issues but I want us to breathe clean air in summer. I prefer to buy one unit for the whole house which is just below 3000 sq.ft. I have read a lot of your awesome reviews but I am still very confused. Is Coway Ap-1512 a good option? It seems that it is a fantastic purifier but I am not sure it can handle our house. Have you reviewed Levoit LV-H133? how does it compare to Levoit LV-H134 and Coway? At least the filter is cheaper than Core 600s and LV-H134 so I can change it more freq. Any advice for me, please?

I haven’t reviewed the LV-H133, but I can say that Levoit air purifiers, in general, use high-quality filters. With more than fifteen Levoit air purifiers tested, I can only say that whichever you choose, you can’t go wrong!
As for the Coway AP-1512HH, it’s not powerful enough for that square footage.
