The Coway Airmega 50 is the smallest air purifier from this brand. I tested it a while ago, and in this article, I will compare it to the legendary Levoit Core 300.
Both are small air purifiers with low CADRs and room coverage, but with some interesting features and good results in our tests.
The Coway Airmega 50 covers rooms of up to 104 sq. ft. (9.7 m²), while the Levoit Core 300 covers rooms of up to 219 sq. ft. (20 m²).
What I like about the Coway is the night light, air quality sensor, and auto mode features.
The Levoit is, on the other hand, a more traditional air purifier without smart features. However, there is a smart version of the Core 300 called the Core 300S, and I have also reviewed it here.
Our Verdict

In general, while both air purifiers are small, compact, and intended for small spaces, the Levoit Core 300 is still slightly larger, more powerful, and has a higher CADR.
Besides, it produced better results in our airborne particle removal tests, performed better in the smoke test, and offers more third-party filter options.
So, the Levoit Core 300 would be a better buying option than the Coway Airmega 50.

Performance Test – Comparison
Although the Levoit Core 300 has more than double the room coverage of the Coway Airmega 50, we still managed to test these two in one room of identical size.
In a room of 194 sq. ft. (18 m²), we placed these two air purifiers in two separate tests and measured how much they would improve air quality in just 60 minutes.
Particle Removal Tests - Comparison
We placed the Levoit Core 300 and Coway Airmega 50 in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.
The results: the Levoit Core 300 improved air quality by 93%, while the Coway Airmega 50 improved it by 90%.
However, in a room of 320 sq. ft. (30 m²), the Levoit Core 300 improved air quality by 92%, which is proof of its real power.
Overall, the Levoit Core 300 showed much better performance in our airborne particle removal tests, which is something I expected due to its larger CADR and larger filter media.
Noise Level Test – Comparison
These two air purifiers have four fan speeds, but the Coway Airmega 50 has auto mode as an additional working mode.
We tested their noise levels at each fan speed and compared the results (check the chart below).

At the lowest speed, the Coway Airmega 50 produces a sound of 40 dBA, while the Levoit Core 300 produces a sound of 40.7 dBA.
However, at maximum speed, the Levoit is much louder. It produces a sound of 64.9 dBA, while the Coway Airmega 50 produces a sound of 57.1 dBA.

After comparing noise levels at each fan speed, I would say that the Coway Airmega 50 is better optimized for noise.
Operating Costs – Comparison
As for operating costs, the Levoit Core 300 uses a 45W motor, while the Coway Airmega 50 uses a motor of just 14W.
This means that if you were to use these two air purifiers at their maximum speeds, 24 hours a day, for one month, your electric power bill would increase by $3.81 in the case of the Levoit Core 300 and by about $1.01 in the case of the Coway Airmega 50.

Besides, there is also the cost of replacement filters, which need to be replaced approximately every 8 months for both air purifiers.
However, the filter on the Coway is much smaller, and in practice, it may last slightly less long than the filter on the Levoit.

Also, the price of the replacement filter for the Coway is slightly higher.
Even though it uses a more powerful motor, the higher CADR and more affordable filter are what make the Levoit Core 300 more affordable for maintenance in the long run.
