Levoit Core 200S Vs Levoit Core 300S – Which one Wins?

We tested two small air purifiers from Levoit's Core series, the Levoit Core 200S and Core 300S. Which one should you buy?

The Levoit Core 300S is one of the most popular and best-selling Levoit air purifiers. Today, I will compare the performance of it and the slightly smaller Levoit Core 200S.

They are both small air purifiers, but the Levoit Core 300S has a slightly larger CADR. It covers rooms of up to 219 sq. ft. (20 m²), while the Levoit Core 200S covers rooms of up to 183 sq. ft. (17 m²).

Three-stage filtration is the main characteristic of both, but the Core 300S filter is larger, and there are many more third-party filters available on the market for this model.

Keep reading to find out which model won our tests, which one is better specifications-wise, and which one is my absolute best-buy recommendation.

Our Verdict

Overall, for small rooms, small bedrooms, or kids’ rooms, both air purifiers are pretty good. They don’t produce ozone and are 100% safe to use.

However, the Levoit Core 300S offers slightly more. It showed better results in our performance tests, has more smart features, is more affordable to maintain, and performed better in our smoke removal test.

The Levoit Core 200S is also a great air purifier; it has a catchy night light feature and provided pretty good results in our performance tests, so you won’t make a huge mistake if you go with it.

Video Comparison

Performance Test – Comparison

As these two Levoits have almost identical CADRs and cover almost identical room sizes, we tested them in a room of identical dimensions.

In a room of 194 sq. ft. (18 m²), we left each of these running at maximum speed for 60 minutes and measured air cleaning performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.

Particle Removal Tests - Comparison

We placed the Levoit Core 200S and Levoit Core 300S in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.

The Levoit Core 200S managed to improve the air quality by 91%, while the Levoit Core 300S improved it by 94%.

The difference is clear: the Core 300S was more efficient in the airborne particle removal tests.

Smoke Box Test – Comparison

Besides the airborne particle removal tests, we tested how fast these two air purifiers would remove all the smoke from a glass box.

We placed them in the box, filled it with smoke, and measured how much time each needed to remove all the smoke.

The Levoit Core 300S showed incredibly good performance; it cleaned all the smoke in just 20 seconds.

On the other hand, the Levoit Core 200S was slightly slower; it needed 32 seconds to do the same.

So, in this test, the Core 300S took the win as well.

Noise Level Test – Comparison

Speaking of noise, the Levoit Core 200S is one of the best-optimized air purifiers for noise.

At maximum speed, it produces just 53.9 dBA, while the Core 300S produces 65.2 dBA. Even though the Levoit Core 300S has a larger CADR, the fact that it’s much louder at maximum speed makes the Core 200S’s CADR-to-noise ratio better optimized.

Noise Levels - Comparison

Comparison of noise levels at all fan speeds between the Levoit Core 200S and Levoit Core 300S air purifiers.

At the lowest speed, the situation is slightly different; the Levoit Core 300S produces 41.4 dBA, while the Levoit Core 200S produces 42.1 dBA.

Fan Speed Levoit Core 200S (dBA)Levoit Core 300S (dBA)
Sleep Mode42.1 dBA41.4 dBA
Speed 1 (Low)44.9 dBA46.5 dBA
Speed 2 (Medium)48.5 dBA54.6 dBA
Speed 3 (High)53.9 dBA65.2 dBA

Both air purifiers have four fan speeds, but the Core 300S has auto mode as an additional speed.

As you can see on the chart provided, the Levoit Core 200S is better optimized at all fan speeds except the lowest one.

Operating Costs – Comparison

Frankly, I expected the Levoit Core 200S to have a better-optimized motor. However, the situation in practice is different.

With a motor of 37W, the Levoit Core 200S will use more power than the Core 300S, which has a motor of just 26W.

Monthly Power Consumption Cost - Comparison

Comparison of monthly power consumption costs for the Levoit Core 200S and Levoit Core 300S air purifiers at all fan speeds.

If you were to use both air purifiers at their maximum speeds, 24 hours a day, for one month, your electric power bill would increase by about $2.16 in the case of the Core 200S and by about $2.01 in the case of the Core 300S.

Fan Speed Levoit Core 200S (W + $/month)Levoit Core 300S (W + $/month)
Standby0.6W ($0.05)1.1W ($0.09)
Sleep Mode12.7W ($1.11)3.8W ($0.33)
Speed 1 (Low)16.8W ($1.47)6W ($0.52)
Speed 2 (Medium)19.5W ($1.71)10.4W ($0.91)
Speed 3 (High)24.6W ($2.16)23W ($2.01)

If we add the price of replacement filters, the size of the filter, and the longevity, I would say that the Levoit Core 300S is more affordable for operation and maintenance.
