IQAir HealthPro Plus vs Winix 5510 – Which is Better?

I tested and compared the IQAir HealthPro Plus and Winix 5510 to see which air purifier is more efficient and which one I’d actually buy.

In this article, you will find out whether the Winix 5510 can compete with premium air purifiers such as the IQAir HealthPro Plus.

What makes this comparison particularly interesting is that both models offer almost identical room coverage, even though the IQAir HealthPro Plus is a significantly larger and more robust device.

The IQAir has a CADR of 260 CFM (440 m³/h), while the Winix 5510 delivers a CADR of 253 CFM (430 m³/h).

When it comes to smart features, the Winix 5510 clearly has the advantage. It includes a smart app, an air quality sensor, and an auto mode. In contrast, the IQAir HealthPro Plus offers almost no smart features, with a timer being its only extra functionality.

Our Verdict

Frankly, the IQAir HealthPro Plus is one of the best and most efficient air purifiers I have tested so far.

If we look at efficiency alone, it’s very hard, if not impossible, to beat an air purifier like the IQAir HealthPro Plus.

However, aspects such as design, power consumption, maintenance costs, smart features, and noise levels are definitely areas where improvements are needed and where IQAir could do better.

In addition, the very high price is often a major drawback for many users, and it also raises the question of whether such an expensive air purifier is really necessary.

To be honest, for smaller rooms and spaces that aren’t extremely polluted (such as hospitals, kindergartens, schools, and similar environments), I would personally choose the Winix 5510. It’s more affordable, easier to maintain, and still highly effective.

However, if you need an air purifier primarily for neutralizing strong odors, VOCs, smoke, and similar pollutants, the IQAir HealthPro Plus is in a completely different league and a far better choice than the Winix.

Performance Test – Comparison

These two models are very well matched. They cover rooms of almost identical sizes, which is why I tested them in rooms of the same dimensions. This is an ideal setup for this type of comparison.

The IQAir HealthPro Plus is rated for rooms up to 406 sq. ft. (37.7 m²), while the Winix 5510 covers rooms up to 392 sq. ft. (36 m²).

We tested both devices in a 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) room and ran them at maximum speed for 60 minutes.

Particle Removal Tests - Comparison

We placed the IQAir HealthPro Plus and Winix 5510 in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.

During that time, both the IQAir HealthPro Plus and the Winix 5510 improved air quality by 96%.

Although the results of this test were identical, performance in odor neutralization was several times better with the IQAir. This is primarily due to its much higher-quality pellet-based carbon filter.

Overall, for most users and for removing airborne particles, both devices are excellent. However, when it comes to neutralizing smoke, VOCs, and similar pollutants, the IQAir HealthPro Plus delivered significantly better performance.

Noise Level Test – Comparison

When it comes to noise, the IQAir HealthPro Plus has six fan speeds, while the Winix 5510 has five fan speeds.

Although the noise level tests showed very similar results at some speeds, I have to point out that the IQAir produces a somewhat unusual sound. The motor has a noticeable hum that resembles a kitchen range hood, and I must say it isn’t pleasant to listen to and can be distracting, especially for people who are sensitive to noise.

Noise Level Comparison

Comparing the IQAir HealthPro Plus and Winix 5510 noise levels at minimum and maximum speeds.

At the lowest speed, the IQAir HealthPro Plus produces a noise level of 40.7 dBA, while the Winix 5510 measures 40.2 dBA.

At maximum speed, the IQAir HealthPro Plus produces a noise level of 64.3 dBA, while the Winix 5510 reaches 65.7 dBA.

Overall, I would say that the Winix 5510 is better optimized for noise than the IQAir HealthPro Plus.

Operating Costs – Comparison

I believe I already mentioned at the beginning of this comparison that the IQAir could benefit from better motor optimization.

It uses the most powerful motor of any air purifier I have tested so far, which is rated at 215W. On the other hand, the Winix 5510 uses a 65W motor.

Power Usage Comparison

Comparing the IQAir HealthPro Plus and Winix 5510 power use at minimum and maximum speeds.

If you were to run both devices at maximum speed, 24 hours a day for one month, your electricity bill would increase by about $12.83 in the case of the IQAir and about $4.68 in the case of the Winix.

In addition to electricity costs, there is also the cost of replacement filters. Although filters for the IQAir are more expensive, they may be more cost-effective in the long run since they last three to four times longer than the filters used in the Winix.

Overall, it’s easy to conclude that the Winix 5510 is significantly more affordable to maintain on an annual basis than the IQAir HealthPro Plus.
