Coway AP-1512HH Vs Hathaspace HSP001 – Comparison (2023)

Making a comparison between air purifiers can sometimes be challenging, even if it doesn’t seem that way at first. This comparison is one of those cases. Two strong, yet at first look totally different appliances, Coway AP-1512HH and Hathaspace turned out to be worth their good reputation

Just one look at both of them is enough to notice the difference in their sizes. However, since both air purifiers were designed for approximately the same room size, this may seem a little awkward. Coway AP-1512HH is supposed to clean the air in up to 361 sq. ft. room, while Hathaspace HSP001 does the same job but for a slightly smaller room size of up to 350 sq. ft.

Another interesting yet important fact regarding sizes is that Coway Mighty will take significantly more space than Hathaspace, even though it doesn’t seem like that at first. Once again, it is proven that looks can deceive.

If there happens to be some kind of air purifier pageant, I would have to rule in favor of Hathaspace. Still, I can’t ignore the fact that you can dress up Coway Mighty in various colors and have it more adaptable and good-looking in your living space

Without further ado, I think you should check out what advantages both air purifiers have to offer to be the winner of this contest.

Features Overview

There is this thing with comparisons. When air purifiers come with loads of features, I turn myself into a geek that just can’t stop before every single feature is tested. In the end, that’s what comparisons are all about. Hear me out, the number of features that both Coway Mighty and Hathaspace have is just remarkable, and it made my assignment a lot more interesting.

There are so many common features such as Smart Sensor, Air Quality Indicator, Auto Mode, Timer, etc. I will be writing about all of them in further lines, but there is just one thing that I can’t pass. The fact that an air purifier such as Hathaspace HSP001 does not come with a Filter Reset Indicator is beyond sane. Such a strong air purifier without such an important feature is something I don’t understand.

Nevertheless, let’s start from the beginning.

Air Quality Sensor

I do have to acknowledge the numerous advanced options that both air purifiers come with. Amongst all, there is this one option that I liked the most. It’s the Air Quality Sensor. The most advanced one, and here is why. Besides the fact that its main job is to detect the level of pollution in the room, this sensor can also detect dust particles. And that is the case with both Coway AP-1512HH and Hathaspace HSP001.

I find that the Coway sensor is a bit more advanced than the other one. It’s mostly because it is more adaptable to the user’s needs with its 3 sensitivity levels that are adjustable. On the upper side, you’ll notice that Coway Mighty has an air quality indicator that changes color depending on the air quality.

Hathaspace also has an air quality indicator, and it lights up in three different colors too. The only difference is that it is placed on the display of this air purifier. Let me just say it, you don’t want it to be red.

My advice would be to clean this sensor once in a while so you can prevent the dust from collecting and interfering with its work.

Auto and ECO Mode

The common thing is that both appliances have an Auto Mode option, and it is linked to the Air Quality Sensor. Depending on the air quality of the room, the device will be automatically switching fan speeds.

Another interesting feature that works in favor of Coway is the Eco Mode, which is unknown to the Hathaspace air purifier. This mode is an even more advanced version of Auto Mode because it can turn the air purifier into a standby state if the air quality is satisfactory for the last half an hour. The minute it senses that the air has turned for the worse, the Eco Mode sets up the motor to a proper speed level.

Ionizer

The ionizer is a feature that both air purifiers have since it is an extra stage of filtration. The good thing is that it is set to OFF by default, but you can still turn it ON whenever you need it. I’ve written about this option more in Coway AP-1512HH and Hathaspace HSP001 separate reviews, so feel free to read my recommendations.

Remote Controller

Don’t we all like gadgets? While Coway AP-1512HH does not come with this option, Hathaspace HSP001 is fully equipped

Hathaspace HSP001 has a remote controller
Hathaspace HSP001 has a remote controller.

Though, I do have a few remarks regarding this gadget. The plastic it was made of could be of better quality, or at least not as cheap as it feels in hand.

Another remark is that it’s battery-free, which means you will have to buy a pack of batteries if you want to use the remote. Other than that, you can use the remote to control all of the options given on Hathaspace’s display. That means you can freely dedicate your time to that new cooking recipe you want to try out.

Timer

Having a Timer is sure of great use for any air purifier lover. It means you can pick a time for how long you want your air purifier to work. Or unless you don’t want it working continuously for any reason.

Anyway, Hathaspace and Coway Mighty both share this feature. With Coway, you get to choose between one, four, and eight hours of time set. Maybe this option is more attractive for Hathaspace’s users because it lets you set it in time intervals between one and twelve hours.

No matter what air purifier it is, the Timer comes as a very useful feature if you like to keep things under control and organized.

Airflow

Since Coway AP-1512HH and Hathaspace HSP001 have pretty much the same flat shape, never mind the size, they both have almost identical Airflow.

Coway AP-1512HH Vs Hathaspace HSP001 – Airflow grilles on the top.

That means that the air enters frontally, on both sides and through the bottom holes.  After the filtration process is over, the clean air gets distributed through the upper side openings.

Warranty

When it comes to warranty, Hathaspace offers a bit more than many other air purifiers. Your HSP001 appliance comes with a 2-5 year warranty. But there’s a catch. Unless you don’t subscribe to a regular filter replacement, you won’t be fully covered. In other words, you will have to replace filters three times a year to obtain a 5-year warranty for your air purifier.

On the other hand, Coway Mighty provides a 3-year warranty unconditionally.

Filtration Technology

The filtration process is an essential matter for any air purifier. In this case, Coway AP-1512HH has a 3-stage filtration, while Hathaspace HSP001 has four stages. The additional stage for each air purifier is the Ionizer which, as I previously mentioned, is optional and not set ON by default.

Many air purifiers have a washable pre-filter, and so does the Coway. It is a great advantage, and in my opinion, Hathaspace company has misused this filter in the HSP001 model. This model has its pre-filter set as a third stage, as opposed to the usual first stage. It is supposed to be the number one filter that serves as a membrane to all bigger allergens. That way, other filters get to last longer.

As for the carbon filter, both air purifiers have it. The difference is that Coway Mighty uses a fibrous one, while Hathaspace’s carbon filter is pellet-based, thus with more quality.

The most important filter is a True HEPA filter, and these air purifiers own it, which is why their performances are amazing. Another two equally important filters in an Hathaspace air purifier are Cold Catalyst Filter and Antibacterial Filter.

How To Replace Filter On Both These Devices?

Since one air purifier has a pre-filter while the other doesn’t, it is important to pay attention to filter maintenance.

This is the part where Coway AP-1512HH beats Hathaspace HSP001. Usually, you are supposed to change carbon filters twice and a True HEPA filter once a year. However, the first time you purchase a new filter pack for Coway Mighty, you’ll see that it contains two pieces of carbon filter and one True HEPA filter. That way, you are fully covered for a whole year.

Changing filters in the Hathaspace air purifier is a bit more inconvenient, given the fact that you will have to do the entire filter replacement every 4-6 months, and you will have to do it at the proper time. That means you’ll have to take notes on when was the last time you replaced the filters because of Hathaspace’s lack of a Filter Reset Indicator.

Anyway, once you become a proud air purifier host, you must set yourself to a commitment of regular filter cleaning if you want your appliance to serve you well and last long-term.

Noise Test

No matter what kind of appliance we have, we are all fans of the noiseless ones. The same opinion stands for air purifiers. In this case, Coway and Hathaspace both have three fan speeds.

Coway AP-1512HH Vs Hathaspace HSP001 - Noise Tests
I used a special noise measurement tool to test these air purifiers’ noise levels.

According to specifications, Hathaspace HSP001 has a Sleep Mode, as opposed to Coway Mighty. The truth is, it does, but it is not the real sleep mode. Once you turn it ON, the device will switch the speed to level one and dim all indicators. Do you see the difference?

Product Noise Range (dBA)
Coway AP-1512HH 41.4 – 63.5 dBA
Hathaspace HSP001 41.3 – 49.3 dBA

As far as the noise goes, I am pretty satisfied with how both Coway Mighty and Hathaspace work when set to the lowest speed level. They are quite pleasant to be around. On the other hand, when set to the maximum speed level, Coway tends to be just a little bit louder than some users might tolerate, but not in an annoying kind of way.

Over time, as I tested many air purifiers, somehow I have grown fond of Hathaspace’s appliances, mainly thanks to their pleasant sound and bedroom adaptability.

Performance Tests

Putting aside all of the features that air purifiers usually have or don’t have, it is their actual performance that counts.

Testing Coway AP-1512HH and Hathaspace HSP001 Performance
I have tested these air purifiers’ performance with a laser particle meter.

On one side, you get Coway Mighty promising to monitor the air in your room every minute of the day, by clearing over 361 sq. ft. of dust, pollen, and smoke particles.

On the other side, Hathaspace has a full right to brag about being ozone-free and CARB-approved, leaving your space free from smoke, odors, and VOCs.

320 sq. ft. Room Test

Despite the fact that these two air purifiers have different room coverage, though not much different, I decided to test them in a 320 sq. ft. room. As per usual, I have put both air purifiers to the test by leaving Coway AP-1512HH and Hathaspace HSP001 working to the fullest for an hour

You can already tell from the table that the performance of both air purifiers is just incredible. While Hathaspace air purifier has made the air clearer for about 91%, Coway Mighty has elevated that percentage to 96%. One word: Remarkable.

Coway AP-1512HH

Hathaspace HSP001

Even though they’re both great appliances, in my opinion, the reason why Coway is better is thanks to its larger filters and better airflow.

Operating Costs

Speaking of how much each of these air purifiers will cost you, I have to say that the power of the motor for both machines is not the only determining fact.

Coway AP-1512HH Vs Hathaspace HSP001 - Motors power comparison
Comparing these two air purifiers’ motor powers.

Yes, Coway Mighty has a 77W motor, while Hathaspace has a 45W one. And yes, if you leave both of them working to the fullest for a whole month 24/7, you will end up with a 6$ bill for Coway and a 3$ bill for Hathaspace

Product Wattage Range (W)
Coway AP-1512HH 0.2 – 69.1W
Hathaspace HSP001 1.4 – 34.8W

But you can’t neglect the fact that Coway AP-1512HH needs only one filter replacement annually, while Hathaspace HSP001 needs at least twice but usually even three replacements. Having almost the same filter price means that, in the end, Coway will cost you much less than Hathaspace. This is a fact that can’t be ignored since power consumption is something that’s relevant to many of us.

Which One Does It Better?

The time to make a decision has come, and I’m sure that, by now, some of you have come to a conclusion, but some are still in a dilemma. So, let’s cut to the chase.

Having a smart sensor and a filter reset indicator, being affordable for maintenance and with better performance overall, to me, Coway AP-1512HH is the absolute winner and a better choice.

However, if by any chance you preferred Hathaspace HSP001 more than Coway Mighty, there is no reason to doubt your judgment. You will not be mistaken if you decide to buy this air purifier. And I’m not just saying that. It is the air purifier that does its job, and it does it well. Rest assured.

Now, I hope I’ve made it easier for you to press that BUY button, but if you’re still wondering if there is anything else that is more suitable to your taste and your wallet, check out some of the many other comparisons on the Air Purifier First website.

As always, your thoughts are more than welcome.
