The Levoit Core Mini has been on the market for a few years now, and after its huge rise in popularity among consumers, many other air purifier brands released devices in this class.
One such brand is Coway, with the Airmega 50 air purifier. It’s a smaller brother of the Coway Airmega 100, which was rated as one of the best small air purifiers here at Air Purifier First.
The Levoit Core Mini has a CADR of 46 CFM (78 mÂł/h), meaning it’s ideal for rooms of up to 72 sq. ft. (6.7 m²). On the other hand, the Coway Airmega 50 has a CADR of 66.7 CFM (113.3 mÂł/h), meaning it’s ideal for places of up to 104 sq. ft. (9.7 m²).
Both air purifiers use three-stage filtration technology; neither has an ionizer or any other feature that could produce ozone, so we can say that they both are 100% ozone free and safe to use.
Our Verdict

After summarizing all the test results and comparisons, things are very tight here.
However, I would personally pick the Coway Airmega 50 as the better buying option in this comparison.
I like its night light feature; it has more advanced features, including an air quality sensor, an air quality indicator, and auto mode.
It also has a higher CADR and performed slightly better in our airborne particle removal tests.

Performance Test – Comparison
As I already said, these Coway and Levoit air purifiers have very similar room coverage. That’s why we tested them in two rooms of identical dimensions.
In the first test, we placed them in a room of 120 sq. ft. (11 m²) and measured the improvement in air quality over 60 minutes at maximum speed.
Particle Removal Tests - Comparison
We placed the Coway Airmega 50 and Levoit Core Mini in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.
We used the Temtop laser particle meter for this purpose.
The Levoit Core Mini managed to improve air quality by 89%, while the Coway Airmega 50 improved it by 90%.
In the second test, this time in a room of 194 sq. ft. (18 m²), which is slightly larger than the recommended size for both, the Coway Airmega 50 improved air quality by 92%, while the Levoit Core Mini achieved 91%.
We can conclude that the Coway Airmega 50 has slightly better performance in these tests than the Levoit Core Mini.
Noise Level Test – Comparison
When speaking of noise, the first thing to mention is that the Coway comes with four fan speeds, while the Levoit comes with three.
The difference is that the Coway has a sleep mode.

At the lowest speed, the Levoit Core Mini produces a sound of 41.8 dBA, while the Coway Airmega 50 is slightly better optimized, producing just 40 dBA.
At maximum speed, the situation is the opposite. The Levoit Core Mini produces a sound of 53.6 dBA, while the Coway produces 57.1 dBA.

Although we could say that the Levoit Core Mini performed slightly better in our noise tests, I would pick the Coway Airmega 50 as the better optimized device for noise, mostly because it isn’t much louder than the Levoit but has a higher CADR and a better CADR-to-Noise ratio.
Operating Costs – Comparison
As for the operating costs, while both devices use well-optimized and low-power motors, the Coway still uses double the power of the Levoit Core Mini.
It uses a 14W motor, while the Levoit Core Mini uses a 7W motor. If you were to use both these air purifiers at their maximum speeds, 24 hours a day, for one month, your electric power bill would increase by about $1.01 for the Coway Airmega 50 and by about $0.63 for the Levoit Core Mini.

In addition to electricity costs, there is the cost of replacement filters, which last a little longer in the case of the Coway, according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

For the Coway, you have to replace the filter approximately every 8 months, and about every 4-6 months for the Levoit.
Taking everything into account, including filter price and third-party filter availability, I would say that the Levoit Core Mini is slightly more affordable for maintenance.
