Coway Airmega 100 Vs Levoit Core 300S – Hands-on Comparison

Coway Airmega 100 is a direct competitor to the popular Levoit Core 300S. We compared their performance, noise, and power use and chose the winner.

I recently purchased the Coway Airmega 100 and published its review just a few weeks ago.

This compact air purifier impressed me with its powerful performance during testing, placing it as a strong competitor to the Levoit Core 300S.

In this comparison, we measured the strengths of the Levoit Core 300S and Coway Airmega 100.

The Coway Airmega 100 has a CADR of 109 CFM (185 m³/h), whereas the Levoit Core 300S offers slightly more power with a CADR of 141 CFM (240 m³/h).

Both models include advanced features, but the Levoit stands out for its range of smart features.

Our Verdict

I’ll be honest: this was one of the toughest comparisons I’ve done so far, with the smallest details determining the winner.

Both air purifiers are outstanding—they performed exceptionally well in our tests, operate quietly, and are easy to use and maintain. Honestly, I could have declared this battle a draw, as the differences between the two air purifiers are barely noticeable.

However, I believe the Levoit Core 300S has something more to offer. It slightly outperformed the Coway Airmega 100 in our particle removal tests, was faster in the smoke tests, and has far more advanced features. It also works with the VeSync smart app, has a higher CADR, and uses a pellet-based carbon filter.

On the other hand, the Coway Airmega 100 is also an excellent choice. It’s slightly quieter than the Levoit and is better optimized for power use.

Performance Test – Comparison

We tested the particle removal efficiency of these two air purifiers using the Temtop laser particle meter.

Although the Levoit Core 300S is designed to cover slightly larger rooms (219 sq. ft. or 20 m²) compared to the Coway Airmega 100 (169 sq. ft. or 15.7 m²), we performed our tests in two identical room sizes.

In the first test, performed in a 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) room, both air purifiers delivered outstanding results. Operating at maximum speed for 60 minutes, the Levoit Core 300S reduced PM2.5 particulate matter from 106.3 to 6.7 µg/m³, achieving a remarkable air quality improvement of 94%.

Particle Removal Tests - Comparison

We placed the Coway Airmega 100 Vs Levoit Core 300S in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.

The Coway Airmega 100 improved air quality by 93% in the same conditions.

In the second test, performed in a larger 320 sq. ft. (30 m²) room, both devices performed exceptionally well. The Levoit Core 300S improved air quality by 92%, while the Coway Airmega 100 achieved a 91% improvement.

The Levoit Core 300S not only demonstrated superior performance in particle removal tests but also proved more effective in neutralizing light odors. This advantage can likely be attributed to its pellet-based carbon filter, which is notably more efficient than the Coway’s filter.

Noise Level Test – Comparison

These two air purifiers have the same number of fan speeds, both include an auto mode and are relatively quiet—particularly at the lower speed levels.

We used a specialized noise measurement tool to measure the noise levels of both units across all speed settings.

Noise Levels - Comparison

Comparison of noise levels at all fan speeds between the Coway Airmega 100 Vs Levoit Core 300S air purifiers.

As shown in the chart above, the Levoit Core 300S is slightly louder at every speed level.

At the lowest speed, it produces a noise level of 41.4 dBA, compared to the Coway Airmega 100’s 40.3 dBA.

Fan Speed Coway Airmega 100 (dBA)Levoit Core 300S (dBA)
Sleep Mode40.3 dBA41.4 dBA
Speed 1 (Low)41.9 dBA46.5 dBA
Speed 2 (Medium)50.3 dBA54.6 dBA
Speed 3 (High)60.9 dBA65.2 dBA

A similar pattern is observed at maximum speed, where the Levoit Core 300S produces 65.2 dBA, while the Coway measures 60.9 dBA.

Overall, the Coway Airmega 100 is better optimized for noise, making it the quieter option. However, it’s worth noting that it also has a smaller CADR.

Operating Costs – Comparison

There is almost no difference in motor power between these two air purifiers. The Levoit Core 300S operates with a 26W motor, while the Coway Airmega 100 uses a 25W motor.

If used at maximum speed, 24 hours a day, for a month, the Levoit Core 300S would increase your electricity bill by approximately $2.01, compared to $1.95 for the Coway Airmega 100.

This efficiency difference is similar across all fan speeds, with the Coway Airmega 100 being slightly better optimized and consuming less power.

Monthly Power Consumption Cost - Comparison

Comparison of monthly power consumption costs for the Coway Airmega 100 Vs Levoit Core 300S air purifiers at all fan speeds.

However, the Levoit Core 300S has a higher CADR, which translates to a better power-to-CADR ratio.

In addition to electricity costs, there is also a cost of replacement filters. The Coway filter lasts longer and is only slightly more expensive than the replacement filter for the Levoit Core 300S.

Fan Speed Coway Airmega 100 (W + $/month)Levoit Core 300S (W + $/month)
Standby0.3W ($0.03)1.1W ($0.09)
Sleep Mode2.7W ($0.24)3.8W ($0.33)
Speed 1 (Low)5.2W ($0.46)6W ($0.52)
Speed 2 (Medium)9.2W ($0.81)10.4W ($0.91)
Speed 3 (High)22.3W ($1.95)23W ($2.01)

Taking all costs into account, we can conclude that the Coway Airmega 100 is slightly more affordable in terms of annual maintenance.
