Some may claim that this comparison isn’t entirely fair, as the AEG AX5 is a much larger air purifier.
However, many people are unaware of the size and power differences between air purifiers, and I often receive questions about comparing models of completely different sizes.
This is also the first comparison in which I’m comparing two air purifiers that are primarily available in Europe. Until now, I’ve mainly focused on US-based air purifiers.
It’s also worth noting that Electrolux and AEG are essentially the same company operating under different brand names. As a result, you may come across an air purifier that looks identical to the AEG AX5, with the only difference being the name.
Our Verdict

I believe everything is more or less clear here.
The AEG AX5 is the clear winner in this comparison, thanks to its much larger filters, better carbon filter, smart features, higher CADR, and—most importantly—the better results in our performance tests.

Performance Test – Comparison
The fact that these two air purifiers are designed for different room sizes makes this comparison a bit more complicated.
The AEG AX5 is suitable for rooms up to 267 sq. ft. (25 m²), while the Electrolux Flow A3 is designed for spaces up to 165 sq. ft. (15.3 m²).
We tested each device in rooms suitable for their recommended coverage. However, what’s particularly interesting is that we also tested both in the same 194 sq. ft. (18 m²) room.
Particle Removal Tests - Comparison
We placed the AEG AX5 and Electrolux Flow A3 in two separate tests and measured their performance using the Temtop laser particle meter.
In this test, both devices ran at their maximum speeds for 60 minutes. During that time, the Electrolux Flow A3 improved air quality by 89%, while the AEG AX5 achieved an improvement of 94%.
It’s clear that the AEG AX5 was significantly more efficient in this test, which was expected given its larger filters and higher CADR.
Another advantage of the AEG AX5 is its better activated carbon filter, which is far more effective than the one found in the Electrolux Flow A3.
Noise Level Test – Comparison
When it comes to noise, the first thing I always compare is the number of fan speeds.
The Electrolux Flow A3 has four fan speeds, while the AEG AX5 has five, along with an additional auto mode.

We measured their noise levels at all speeds using a professional noise meter on the dBA scale.
The results? The AEG AX5 is one of the quietest air purifiers we’ve tested. At its lowest speed, it produces just 40.1 dBA, compared to 40.8 dBA on the Electrolux Flow A3.

At maximum speed, the difference is even more noticeable: the AEG AX5 reaches 56.8 dBA, while the Electrolux Flow A3 climbs to 62.8 dBA.
It’s clear that the AEG AX5 is much better optimized for noise control than the Electrolux Flow A3.
Operating Costs – Comparison
The AEG AX5’s higher CADR requires a more powerful motor. It uses a 55W motor, whereas the Electrolux Flow A3 operates with a 20W motor.
If you were to run both air purifiers at maximum speed, 24 hours a day for an entire month, your electricity bill would increase by approximately $3.72 for the AEG AX5 and around $1.67 for the Electrolux Flow A3.

There’s also the cost of replacement filters. While the AEG’s filter is slightly more expensive, it may prove more cost-effective in the long run since AEG recommends replacing it only once every two years.

When you add up all the costs, I’d say these two air purifiers are roughly equal in terms of annual operating expenses.
